this past week or so ive been suffering with thrush, i went to the docs and was given some pessaries, but i cant use them (i'm so rubbish! it took me 3 years to get the hang of tampons lol) so i went back today and asked for some cream.. i opened the box and found the cream, called Daktacort, is not a specialist cream like Canesten but a topical steroid for general use. it worried me reading the leaflet warning that it can cause thinning of the skin and stuff- eek! i'm apprehensive about putting it on my bits in case it takes a layer off! does anyone kno anything about it? is it ok to use or do i hav a dippy doctor?!

I'm definitely no expert but my mum is a pharmacist so i guess i've picked a few things up over the years...

Daktacort will only thin the skin if you are elderly (and therefore already have thinner skin) or if you use the cream for a long time and apply a lot every time you use it. So, i'm sure it's fine to use, just be sparing when applying it :)

The problem with reading instructions on medicines is they always say something you dont want to hear or the side effects are something you already have.

I remember reading the leaflet in anti depressants and it said can cause paranoia, sadness, Insomnia, suicidal thoughts etc.
What was the point of that i thought so never took them in the end.

Same with all medicines dont read the side effects cause they usually make things worse, you are usually just best hoping that your doctor isnt a twit and gives you something that is going to help not make things worse.

thanx guys for ur prompt replies... b4 i read them i'd gone crying to my boyf and made him go to the 24-hour asda for some canesten- but they big fat didnt hav any so i've no choice anyway! i'm gonna use the goddamn cream!

Yeah its ok, as Skyla says its a steroid cream (which will stop the itching!) But thinning of the skin is only really an issue in long term use.

Although I'm not entirely sure how its going to get rid of your thrush. :?
