I just wondered if anyone was gonna or has given birth at the maternity unit in hillingdon hospital? whether the care was good etc? I hear all these stories about some places which arent well organised and midwives are not nice and Im scared :|

Dh wants to get a private room to have baby but I dunno how it would work and whether they even offer them?

Reena have you not been for a visit to the hospital? If you phone them they should be able to tell you when they have group 'tours' so you get to see the staff, rooms, how things work etc, I've not been on one myself but maybe someone else has??

As for a private room, most hospitals have them, but like the pools, they cannot guarantee them because obviously babys don't exactly stick to any predicted birth date 100% of the time hehe so they may be in use when you go in. But I would suggest asking your MW or phoning the hospital for precise information for that hospital as they do differ from what I've read by mumstobe on here.

Very best wishes

Hi

Dont be scared hun im sure it will be fine.
I definetly think you should do the hospital tour if your that nervous!
Good luck
Katrina

My sister in law gave birth in Hillingdon hospital and she couldn't fault the hospital. They reacted quickly when my niece was born not breathing and if it wasn't for them she wouldn't be here today. Everyone will have horror stories of hospitals when they give birth because some people have complications and blame the hospital etc. I'm sure it will be fine! My mum had me and my two brothers in hillingdon hospital so it can't be that bad if she kept going back

Aww thanks for the advice  I wasa bit naughty cos I didnt go to the antenatal class they offered so I dont really know, but Im gona ask my m/w about it next week, providing LO doesnt put in an appearance before then!

Strangeness, thats good to know, my mum had my bro there and she said they were really nice, so feeling a bit better now, lets hope everything goes well, already tried hoovering and a friend said nettle tea helps speed things up but doesnt sound very appetising :puke:

I had Jaycee at hillingdon and plan to have this one there too. I cant fault the care there at all, apart from one midwife :x she was crap lol! alot of my friends gave birth there and had her at one point and all agree she was a waste of time! Irish woman, think her name was mary? The Jamaican women there are fantastic! And they really help you with breastfeeding etc! I was born there too and my mum says the best part of the hospital is the maternity area!
Dont worry your in great hands..
I didnt go to antenatal classes either, but they did show me how to breathe properly (it WORKS!!) and when she came out with the cord round her neck they were very fast to act and helped her to breathe after she was born.
If you need anything just ask, they are all so lovely there!

Phew, thats so reassuring, I hope I dont get the Irish woman, actually I might not be so nice during labour so she better watch out, lol. Ok, feeling loads better about this, gonna relax now, thankyou everyone who replied! More labour dust methinks!

Sending relaxing smiles with that birthing dust for you Reena

Good luck honey! Looking forward to reading your birth story and seeing piccies! :cheer:

Hi Reena

I am having Jade on 11th April by c-section at Hillingdon next month. At my last appointment as you wait TWO damn hours to be seen at least, lol, I went to the maternity wards and asked to be shown around, they were happy to do it. A private room is £85 per night, £65 if you share the toilet/shower with the person next door. You have an adjoining door. If not, the wards are nice and small, only 4 bays to a room so pretty good. The ward you give birth on, WOW is all I can say. You all have your own room, pool, bathroom and everything, really impressed I was. Gutted I am having a section now after seeing those rooms, they are lovely. If you are only staying in for 6 hours, you get to have a room with a double bed in afterwards, if not you go two floors up to a ward of a private room.

They also have ice machines, use of kitchen and fridge etc. I was recommend taking some microwave food if you're staying as the meals from what I saw nosing around weren't even big enough for a 5 year old!

All of the staff I met seemed really lovely and it's right about the Jamaican women, one came over and gave me a hug and I was only looking around. They are lovely. :)

Hi Claire,

Thanks sooo much for the info, sounds great, I dont think they had private rooms when my mum had my bro but seems like a great option and not that expensive! I will definitely opt for that, well it could be any day now, so Il remember all the advice, good luck and lotsa best wishes for you and baby Jade :D

Hey that's OK, glad you read it in time. :D The rooms seem real small though. I'd go for the £65 option after looking at them. I am hoping I can get hold of £200 as I don't wanna share after a section, need privacy.

Do you know what you are having?

Yeah, we decided to find out at the 22 week scan, m/w pointed out his 'third leg' :D and hubby got really excited cos he finally could make something out on the screen, lol. Im due 2nd but gotta go hillingdon maternity on the 11th if baby hasnt arrived by then and they will gimme an induction date, dont want it coming to that though, would rather labour started without intervention, are you having an elective?
