Any older expectant mums Around?

So I had my appointment with the consultant last week. He seemed really reasonable and was at pains to emphasise that everything was basically my choice, but his suggestion was to induce at 41 weeks - he said that this gives the baby plenty of time to be born naturally while reducing the chances of a stillbirth.

At the moment I am well - blood pressure low and I’m taking aspirin- also both my uterine arteries are normal which is apparently a very important factor- so he suggested I see him again at 36 weeks to review everything and make a decision.

It’s difficult to know what to think really but I’m leaning towards following his advice - he’s the expert after all...

i think 41 weeks is reasonable if you feel ok with that. Mine were saying they wanted baby out BY due date which i felt was rather hasty.....if i go over i will happily get monitored daily but i really want to avoid being induced due to the sheer length of time i will be in hospital for...they dont let you out after they give you the prostaglandins so you're in for 24 hours waiting.....and i have a baby at home who has never even had a babysitter before!!

Yes, if they want the baby out by the due date, the baby’s surely likely to be born prematurely and I can’t see how that would be a good thing.

This is my first so I’m unsure about everything... so if you are induced, you have to be in hospital for 24 hours from the induction or from the birth? If the baby is born naturally in a midwife led unit how long would you expect to stay in? I hate hospitals - the quicker I can get home safely, the better....

I’d love for the baby to be born at home, but I feel like I want to be that much closer to medical help just in case.

i expect different hospitals have different policies- i thought they send you home until the induction process starts to take effect but appartantly in my hospital they keep you in the whole time. my friend was in for about 4 days in all! I had my last baby in a midwife unit and i stayed a couple of hours after the birth, so basically i arrived at 6am and was gone at 3pm. i was allowed to go as soon as i wanted provided i had had a wee. But there are no midiwfe units near where i live now. thats why i'm going for a homebirth as my number one choice. i'm only half hour from hospital if anything went wrong. i had a homebirth with my first 10 years ago....

If I wasn’t a first timer, I’d probably go for a home birth too. Lots of questions for me to ask at my next appointment about induction then.

if like me you want to avoid a long stay in hospital, but want the safety of hospital for your first, you can still say no to being induced. you could go for monitoring every day over 41 weeks to check baby's heartrate , movement, and cord blood flow, and just wait for it to happen naturally and go into hospital at that point.

Yes, that’s what I was thinking... well the consultant suggested that we meet again at 36 weeks to see how everything is going and to decide, so I have some time to do some research etc...

Hi ladies! I turned 40 in January and I’m 8 weeks 4 days
I’ve a daughter (21) and a son (14). I had a mmc about 5 years ago and a mc before my son so this is my 5th pregnancy. Really hope this one sticks! Xx
