Rather than having to come back from hols to a pile of mail I was wondering if I would do the keepsafe system, where the sorting office holds the mail until you get back...

has anyone used it and if so... did they actually do it!! I have visions of my usual pile of newspapers because the kid didnt stop delivering!

I was a postie for a while when we first moved up here

The system is quite good but occassionally items are missed. If you have a regular postie then you should be ok, it's when you have loads of different posties that errors occur.
Saying that, if you're in the city then your mail will probably be sorted by different people than the ones who deliver it and they will more than likely be on the same 'station' all the time.

They hold everything until your return date then send it all in a clear plastic bag (or bags depending on the amount). Sometimes it will all come at once, other times it will be spread over a couple of days. If there's loads then it might be delivered by van 8)

As with everything these days its pot luck as to whether it all works out and Royal Mail will do sod all if it goes wrong anyway except maybe refund some money.

This is just from my experience as a rural postie a few years back, maybe it's all changed for the better
