Hi ladies. im in a posting mood today! i have been on anti-epileptic medication for some years now and was just wondered if there are any other mum to be's who are also in my boat?

I am just curious to see how you are being treated generally ( im 8+6) and whether you have been told if you will be monitored more closely/have extra scans etc.

Ive been told my scan will be 12 weeks as usual so was quite surprised at 1st.
me and husband are going to pay for an earlier test for downsyndrome/spina bifia etc. as just want to check babys okay with the medication im taking. roll on 12 weeks!

If you are reading this and have given birth before, itd be great to hear from you to read about your experience. i know ive been told they dont like you to go beyond 16hrs of labour incase increases chance of fitting. i just hope it all goes smoothly!

Hi I am epileptic and am pregnant with my second.

My epilepsy is completely controlled and has been for years.

With my first pregnancy I was consultant led and had several extra scans. Because my first birth was straight forward this time I have been down graded to low risk and can birth in the midwife led unit.

At my scans they checked some areas very thoroughly such as the spine and the palette. (To see if it was cleft)

This time the only extra scan I have is a cardiac one to do a detailed check of the heart. I have that next week when I will be 21 weeks

Feel free to ask me any questions pregnancy is a worrying time even more so when you have a medical condition

Thank you so much for your reply! My epilepsy is controlled and had been for years too. I just worry about the harm my medication can cause. I've been taking 5mg folic acid for nearly a year.
At what weeks were your extra scans?
xx

No worries
I know I worry about the medication too. My consultant told me last time that if I were to come off it and have a sezure that it would be more harmful to the baby than my meds are.

I had my extra scans later in the pregnancy from 27 weeks on.

They did look for any signs at the 12 week scan but baby is so small at that stage.

I too had been taking 5 mg of folic acid for years keep taking it

Easier said than done but try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy

xx
