my ex really wants to be at the babys birth. so he wants to come to the couples antinatal class to learn about what will be happening. but im worried that because its for couples will we have to do "coupley"(dont know if thats a word lol) things. i know we will both feel really akward if we do and would propbely both rather not go if thats the case.
has anyone ever been to one and if so what kind of things do you have to do. would anyone advise not to go seeing as we are not a couple?

Personally I wouldn't have liked to have gone to the antenatal classes on my own but really they weren't like you had to do things in your couples. The midwives split us up into groups but into 2 or 3 bigger groups.

Is there not a dads to be class for him to attend?

Where I live, the women go to the classes on their own, and the dads have there own class to go to if they want.

There was only 1 class at 16 weeks where my hubby was allowed to go to and that was just a physiotherapy class. xx

i have been going to the mums only ones for the last 4 weeks but at the end of that course there is one for couples to attend so the dad knows more about whats going to be happening.

It would be really useful for him to have an idea of what to expect, especially if he is going to be your birth partner.

You wouldn't have to explain your circumstances to the rest of the group and you don't need to take part in anything that you didn't feel comfortable with.

My advice would be to have a chat with the midwife holding the class before hand to see if there is anything she has planned that could be a bit awkward for you both. xxx

I agree, it will make things so much easier if He knows what to expect.... Talking to the MW in charge of the class Before you go in would be a good idea, but for my partner and i , we went at the start of the month for a refresher class, we saw models of the womans womb and got a talk about positions and breathing, also NO hands on stuff.... many ladies had sisters or mothers in with them... one lady even had her 'DAD' as he was her birthing partner...... not my cup of tea... but each to their own.

Try not to worry about it, i am sure you will get through the classes without feeling awkward  Lv Yvonne xx
