Hi, I am new to this site, but I hope someone can put my mind at rest.

Ive suffered from depression on and off for 15 years. Im now 14 weeks pregnant with my second and had a bit of a relapse (had come off them before trying to conceive). Doctor has put me on fluoxetine and assures me it is safe, but I feel so guilty and am worried sick. Has anyone else been on these during pregnancy?

Thanks, shellie :)

I came off them when I was pregnant for my own reasons of not trusting them.

If you cannot stay off them they are safe to the extent where it may be more harmful for you or the baby if you don't stay on them.

There is limited research out there on this but overall, the idea suggests that taking them in the third trimester can make the baby show withdrawel syptoms when born, some of which end up in SCBU.

BUT don't let this stop you taking your tablets. I stopped taking mine when I was pregnant to protect Damien, but in the end I am back on mega amounts to conpensate for missing out, my dperession has lapsed and we've all agreed I should never have come off them.

If I became pregnant again, I would come off them again, but only because I have read too much.

It is something to make your own mind up about. But like I said, If you cannot stay off them, they are safe to the extent where it may be more harmful for you or the baby if you don't stay on them.

Good luck and sorry you're another sufferer of depression xxx

Im bipolar hun and take some fairly heavy duty meds.

Please talk to your doctor or your midwife again if you are really worried but trust taht they are their best for you. Sometimes its safer for us to have our meds than to be without them.

Best of luck to you hun.
