Quick question, I've one day left on my v. hefty anti-biotics. Thing is they are making me throw up all the time, so much so that the only thing I can tolerate is lucozade and rice cakes.... So as you can imagine I'm almost back to my pre-baby weight within a week, and I'm worrying this is affecting my milk. Debs seems really hungry today, so I checked my milk after she'd been suckling for about 3/4's of an hour. It still looked really thin and watery like the breast that hadn't been fed on - so is the fact I'm not eating right now effecting it? Beforehand, halfway through my milk has looked thicker and whiter. We've just fed her some formula but she's been on and off the breast for about 6 hours now and still seems hungry

your miok will be fine. Breast milk is quite watery at some stages during a feed thats why you don't have to give bubba extra liquids.
what you need to do is make sure you're drinking plenty of water (but not too much). i would usggest a glass at every feed and a couple in between. Eat whilst you are feeding too - make some finger foods you can have at the side of you such as biscuits or chopped carrot or fruit.
Eat a bowl of porridge twice a day made with milk. And finally REST!!!! Lay down as often as you can
soon your milk supply will be filling little deborah and all will be well

the breast milk baby gets for the first few moments of feeding is the thirst quenching stuff then comes the rich milk which is the filling stuff.

i just thuoght id add that :D

Ooooo Budge the breast-feeding guru has come to mine and Deb's rescue! Thanks! I think I must be producing enough as when I give my nips a squeeze I get a right old spurt which practically hits the ceiling lol - sorry if TMI  but it makes me laugh (little things please little minds etc). Deb's looks much more efficient now when she's sucking and she's producing loads of wet nappies and poop so she must be getting enough, I think it's over anxious new mummy syndrome.... Also we had OH's parents around for the weekend and yesterday so she could have been more restless with all the new people in the house.

:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

MW came out today to discharge us, and she weighed Debs who is .....

*massive drum roll* 7lbs 14 oz! She was 7 7 when she was born 11 days ago, so is obviously getting tonnes of nourishment from me as she's only been *topped up* with formula twice over the last 36 hours. So proud of Debs! Told you I was being over anxious *sigh*.

well done gingerpig

just relax and trust in yourself :)

Thanks all!   It is a wonderful feeling, and I'm so proud of Debs. Good advice Budge, going to follow it to the letter, glad OH is still on paternity leave :cheer:

Sorry I've not been keeping in touch with everyone - I was re-admitted to hozzie on Thursday with nausea and vomiting, probably as a result of the anti-biotics. After a couple of days on a drip and anti-nausea drugs I'm back at home and feeling pretty good which is wonderful. I'm not posting to whinge about that, but I did want to say that Debs was weighed today, and she is now *drum roll* 8lb's 10 oz's! The only reason I mention the hozzie bits is to say that it has been so hard to stick with the breast feeding, but that even with all of the spewing going on, Debs is obviously still flourishing! Not to say people should or shouldn't breast-feed as that it a very PERSONAL choice and nothing to do with anyone apart from the mum herself, but personally I'm so proud that I've been able to stick with the booby juice and that Little Bird (aka Debs) is thriving on it. Hoping I can stick with it for much longer!

Im sorry you had to go back into hospital hun.

Great news about Debs gaining weight well and good for you for sticking with the boobie feeding :)
