Im another victim of SPD. Went to the GP's this morning as i couldn't sleep last night due to pain. They wisked me into hospital and after loads of tests i got this as a diagnosis. Oh the joys!

If anything good has come out today i have a phone call from thee HR department to say if i get signed off work i am entitled to full sick pay until the day i asked for my maternity leave to start.

I now have a big elastic band around my bump ----- very attractive!

Out of you ladies who have this has anyone had to give up work? I mainly sit behnd a desk (writing reports) and also driving when i see people. Just wondered how this is likely to impact my work?

Sorry to hear that you have this now too. It isn't nice but I know that everyone can have a different severity.

The main thing is that it will (hopefully) disappear once the baby is delivered so that is one saving grace. In the meantime, take it easy, keep your knees together as much as possible and don't stand on one leg at a time. Sit down to put your knickers, socks etc on....

I've not given up work but then I sit at home all day on the laptop working. Walking is VERY hard for me now, even with crutches but hopefully you won't get to that point!

I have had SPD since bout 19/20 weeks, quite bad. Had some physio, where she showed me some exercises to do and handed me the big tubigrip support and one which straps round my hips. Also told me to sit on a gym/birthing ball at home.

I am still at work but like you my job mainly consists of me sitting down. But do remember that can aggravate the problem. My work are aware of the SPD. Although i did have to print them of some info of the net and get them to do another risk assesment on me cus they didnt know what it was or how bad it can be. Think they thought i was being over dramatic with pregnancy pains.

I must admit tho i only drive short distances to work/shops etc and i do find myself quite stiff and in pain when getting out the car.

I dont wear the hip support as i found that it aggravated my SPD. I do wear the tubigrip tho. Find this a big help. If i dont wear it i have awful backache and this in turn sets off my SPD big time.

When deciding on maternity leave i told my employers that i may have to bring the date forward if i couldnt manage work with it.

I wasn't due to leave until 21st March but tomorrow will be my last day as I just can't cope anymore.

From your questions I gather that it is not impacting your work yet. My advice is to stop now. I kept going until I could hardly walk then got signed off for 2 weeks, got exercises from the physio, a giant tubigrip and a suport band. This allowed me to go back to work as it was possible to walk for more than 10 minutes, though there was no improvement without the support belt. But after 2 weeks back at work I can barely walk while wearing all my supports and am unable to do half the exercises (anything which involves moving my right hip). I struggle to sit through a meal at the table. Going to the cinema or the theatre is out of the question. I have no idea what I will do for the 8 weeks before baby is due.

In my experience it does not improve regardless of what I do. Resting does not make things better, it just slows the decline. So don't push yourself and keep going until things get really bad.

I have to agree with kalia on the exercises i found that they just hurt me too much to do, and when i did i was in agony for days after.
I have resigned myself to the fact that i will be in pain till at least when baby comes.

Just dont push yourself, if it hurts to do something then dont do it. I pushed myself at work at christmas, big mistake i was in agony for a long time after.

I am looking forward to the night where when i roll over in bed i can do so without waking up in pain then having to grab the headboard/side table for leverage. Basically cant wait to beable to move without having to think of the least painful way to do so.

I miss the cinema. That's the very reason we haven't been for months either :( Stupid SPD. I literally couldn't sit through a whole movie. As for meals out.. I get VERY uncomfortable and standing up afterwards is torture! I need to be hauled out of bed sometimes too!
