Put this is tri 3 as I was complete unaware of this section lol!

Hi ladies! So I gave birth on the 2nd July to a beautiful little baby girl! Her name is Annabelle Grace Brenda (after our grandma's) and we are both smitten! So I didn't do a labour thread as it was over pretty much as quickly as it started but I just wanted to share my experience with people as I feel there can be a lot of negatives however my experience was extremely positive!

So, for a few weeks before my due date id stared having period "aches", backache and fanny daggers! So I knew things were heading in the right direction but would keep getting myself worked up that something was happening when it wasn't! I now know it's was just baby getting into my pelvis!

Went to MW on my due date and she said we could try a stretch and sweep! My cervix was favourable, I was 1cm so she could perform it! She said I was nearly there but not quite ready and but that, at the worst I wouldn't need an IV induction as she could pop my waters now! I was extremely happy with this as I had planned pool birth at birthing centre so really didn't want to be induced!

So that evening we had tea and had a lovely chilled night in, I was feeling a lot more calm and less stressed about the whole thing as the symptoms I had been having were starting to frustrate me! I went to bed at about 11.30 with normal period aches etc but thought nothing of it!

Woke up at 00.15 with more intense period pain, but they were coming in waves! Not knowing if it was contractions and thinking even if it was it could be hours yet I took some paracetamol and tried to get back to sleep! That lasted about 10 minutes as they were intensifying and I had to get up when they came on or they hurt more. Went to the toilet and had fresh red blood when I wiped, I had been spotting earlier due to sweep but it was brown. Rang BC they said because I could talk through contractions that it wasn't bad yet but that I needed to go to triage to check over bleeding!

At triage, they said bleeding was just my bloody show but because I was 5cm dilated!!!! The womb can react by bleeding more when things are progressing fast! So she said, hope you've packed your stuff as you need to go to BC and have your baby! It didn't seem real and we toddled off, only to be greeted at the door by a woman who actually have birth on the floor in front of us! That well freaked my OH out lol!

Got to the BC and contractions probably coming every 3 minutes for about 45 seconds! I can honestly say that I didn't time one contraction throughout the whole time! At this point they were really quite intense, they informed us all the pools were full for now but as soon as one becomes available we could move! This was the hardest bit, toe curlingly painful at times but over with as soon as it came and I had a brill NW who really helped me focus on moving on from each contraction! I couldn't sit down, I had to stand and didn't want anyone near me at this stage! Gas and air helped I think, although I shouted at OH saying it was shit but it never left my mouth after lol!

Around 5am a pool became free so I got into a pool! This was nice! It eased some of the pain and supported me as I needed to rest but lying down made any pain worse! So within about 10 minutes I felt the urge to push! And when I say urge, it really was a primitive urge to push! I felt down there and felt my waters bulging out! This was awful and the pressure was so intense! Within a couple more contractions though, my waters went and that relief was amazing! Then her head came! The MW didn't believe how far down age was until I screamed "she's got loads of hair" MW had abit of a panic then! She said "she really is coming fast"! Then, I think within about 15 minutes she was here! Pushing was a good feeling, like a release everytime it happened!

Aftercare was: delayed chord clamping until it stopped pumping, skin to skin with daddy while I delivered placenta naturally. All went without hitch, placenta came within about 10 minutes and didn't hurt to get rid of it! Again though, MW didn't believe it was coming and didn't catch it in a bowl like she needed to so had to fish it out of pool! Lol!

Was checked over and only grazed! Used g&a for internal and that shows you what g&a is actually like whilst not having painful contractions, it's brilliant! Lol!

Aftercare at BC: we stayed for over 24 hours after! we had a 1:1 feeding care assistant that helped with breastfeeding, they did all her checks including her vitamin k and were there for anything we needed! It was a fantastic experience, just what you need when you have had such a life changing experience! We could have visitors whenever we wanted and how ever many we wanted!

We both feel extremely happy and blessed to have had such a good experience and hope this helps put a few peoples minds at ease regarding labour/BC and anything inbetween! Xxx
