Not sure if this belongs in here but anyway...

When you are pregnant, are their any risks with having animals in the house..

For instance leading to cat poo or dog wee...

I remember when my sister was pregnant someone saying something about rat wee can cause the baby to come out blind...

Well anyway, im getting worried about the cat pooin and dog weeing randomly wherever it pleases...

Apart from being discusting, can this effect my g/f or the baby?

Cat poo definitley can cause problems, she should not be cleaning any litter trays out.

The only other one I've heard of is ewes and lambs if she goes to a farm. I'm sure dog poo isn't great to be around anyway, so she should make sure she washes her hands if she comes into contact with any pets.

Well the cat poo'd in her bedroom, right next to her bed !

I only found out yesterday night but it had been their 1-2 days...

Aslong as she doesnt touch it is it ok, I mean it must be full of germs...

Im really not happy about it, its not my house so i cant do anything about the animals but if its going to cause problems for her or the baby I'll have to put my foot down

I'd say as long as someone else clears it up and disinfects the area she'll be OK. However, I'd say if the baby is going to be in that house then the cat issue needs to be resolved. We have a cat and when I got pregnant we banned the cat from upstairs. Cats are great pets but they can lie on a baby and suffocate them, I was worried about this so our cat isn't allowed in the bedrooms.
Saying that she runs a mile when she sees Brody so I don't think it would have been an issue but better safe than sorry

Well im going to run that link by her mum and see what she thinks, i dont want to take any chances on this

Can't see that going down too well. My OH told me to get rid of my dog....dog is still here, as is OH lol.

its just basic common sense, you should wash your hands after handling animals anyway. Don't change the litter tray etc. I have 1 dog, 3 cats, 3 guinea pigs, 2 rabbits, hamster and fish and my baby is just fine.

Blimey none of mine do that

I think a bit of animal training is needed!! I've never woke up to my dog weeing on me!! He's never done it in the house, and when I have had cats in the past, they've never been allowed upstairs and have always 'done their business' outside. I would be very worried about having a baby in a house where cat mess is not noticed for a couple of days!!

Why does the dog wee on you in the house??!!

My dog never wees anywhere in the house, even when she is left alone during the day while we both work. She is walked for an hour each day, and does he wees then or in the garden, she always goes to the back door when she wants to go wee wee!!

I would seriously get dog trained before baby comes, it cant be pleasant to have dog peeing in the house, and once the baby is crawling....... :?

Good luck, dogs are really quite intelligent. Make sure you give loads of praise when it finally wees outdoors, make a big fuss and they will associate this with good behaviour and go outside more and more

On the rare occasions jack has done one in the house I can smell it immediately. The edjit peeed at the back door this a.m but this is the first time in a year and he had been meiowing for a wee while and I didnt take any notice. He had the decency to go in the recycle bag.

Haha, a bit of potty training with the dog for when the baby comes !

Hey

I have a cat and when I was pg if I had to change her litter tray I used disposable gloves. I still use gloves now for taking the rubbish out and cleaning out the cats feeding bowls.

Cats are pretty much covered in their own poo because of the way they groom themselves. Unfortunately we got the cat before we had Isaac otherwise although I love animals I wouldn't have got a cat in a million years. I hate the way the cat can jump up on the worktops. Makes me shudder thinking about the germs.

I do love my cat though. Promise

Lou :)

they do say though if you have been a cat owner for a while you develop an immunity to toxoplasmosis.

my cats used to lie on my tummy the first time I was pg. Not all at once :D
My wee girl adores our remaining cat and feeds her the dried food from a wee tub, she tips it in and the cat knows she is the feeder so rubs himself up against her which she finds hilarious.
