I've just had a letter from the hospital for an appointment with an anaesthestist at 31 weeks. Anyone else had this?

I'm thinking it may be because I'm on aspirin and will need heparin after the birth but not sure - I'm on course for a normal delivery as far as I know so wonder why they need to see me beforehand...?

Not sure hun, i didnt notice you enter in to 3rd tri  have a missed something lol

I dont have anything like this, it may be to do with the asprin, maybe jsut to be sure you're aware of everything.

 Hey Claire....I crept in a couple of days late :) Hope you're doing well.

Yeah, I guess extra appointments can only be a good thing x

I had an appointment like this. They do it with patients who are slightly higher risk (I had high BMI). There is nothing to worry about, they just want you to meet with the anaesthestist so that he can go through your family/medical history and let you know about all the options open to you. My appointment was very very quick and and basically they said that an epi might be difficult to site in me so make sure I ask for one early so that I am not writhing around in pain when they do it (which I did - epi was great).

I have an anaethetist appointment next week. Like Happybunny I have a higher than average BMI so I guess I'm higher risk. As far as I know it's pretty routine but I'll update next week when I've been to see him.

I am under a consultant because of high BMI....But have never had the anaethetist appointment....Must not be routine in my trust.

Thanks for the replies girls. I have a low BMI so maybe it works both ways - I'll let you know how it goes anyway. Hope I can have an epi if needed :)
