so we like Alice/Alys for a middle name.

i would like to use the Alys spelling as im proud of my welsh heritage and my mainden name was welsh and now i feel like ive lost that welshy in me. however my mum thinks everyone will spell it wrong, or pronounce it wrong and think it looks odd as we dont live in wales.

what does anyone think?

hubby isnt bothered either way but im getting stick from my family about the spelling.

I think either would be fine, though I'd personally use Alice. But I don't have any welsh in me so that's probably why. Xx

I'd use Alice personally

Whilst you have welsh heritage - your not a welsh women living in Wales?

I mean- I have Welsh in my family but I'm not about to spell baby's name in welsh  ( Wales is also only 30 miles away aswell)

well i did live in wales for a while and whenever i visit again i feel like im home. if id move anywhere id move to wales.

Then spell it alys if it's really what you want :) family will have to put up with it and stop moaning

Your baby remember not your family's :) x

of course i also have to get past the fact every time my dad hears the name alice he says "alice, alice who the ____ is alice" which he would obviously have to stop lol.

may be a boy anyway in which case it doesnt matter

our names have been sorted for months so its girs names im sussing out now lol.

i have a girly vibe though

I used used to work with an Alys and people constantly pronounced it wrong, she would get most commonly- aleez, ail-sa, alyssa. She never really minded too much, she liked it because its different x

I would choose Alys, but I live in Wales. Choose the way you and your oh like best and don't worry about anyone else.

I would pick Alys if I were you - it sounds like it's what you would like to do and it would make you happy! :) People always pronounce and spell names wrong no matter what - and you can always put them right!

My dd middle name is alise , I like the alys rather than Alice x

i suppose its not as bad with it being a middle name sowont be used THAT much. i just think its a way to remember my nana without using her name as she hated it and im not too keen either (it was doris).

its the first issue family have had with names.

I would say Alice too. I know quite a few Alice's it's a lovely name x

well its the same name, just spelt differently.

I think spell it how you want. Both spellings are pronounced the same way. And as a middle name a little girl wouldn't be expected to be able to spell or remember her middle name till she's a bit older. My daughter is 5 and she knows her middle name is Grace, but wouldn't recognise it or be able to spell it.

My mum was from Western Samoa, so I've got a traditional Samoan middle name. I've never had any issues, other that some weird looks cause I'm blonde and blue eyed!lol

I live in Wales so I'm biased - Alys! It's nice to be a bit different xx

My LO is Called Alice, im not welsh though, I would probably pronounce Alys wrong knowing me well I have a friend called Alex and everyone calls her Aly (like Alee) but that might just be my stupidity lol.

Middle names aren't used at all basically so I think it would be fine, you only ever use it to fill out forms. x

Go with whichever spelling you like. Personally I like Alys! xx
