Alternative to Medised for snuffly baby

Have you tried just using snufflebabes (baby vicks) on her chest and baby olbus oil for her to inhale )tissue under her cot bottom sheet or between her vest and top during the day). I found those worked well with Thea and no taking of meds involved.

ETA - i've been incredibly rubbish lately and only managed to get your tea posted this morning!

You could try Calcold. Its Calpol for colds.

I like those droplets things for the bed sheets, Karvol (sp), they're great!! Like baby olbas oil. I also have a plug in calpol thing, that stinks the room out, and helps her breathe :D

Flame...I didn't realise that Calcold has exactly the same ingredients in it as Medised. Stooopid lady in Boots told me it wouldn't make Tom drowsy but when I got home I compared the ingredients to Medised and they're identical! x

Thanks ladies, I'm off to the chemist now.

Much appreciated

Ooooh ok sorry i didnt realise :?

Hey! Don't be sorry! Just annoyed me that it's marketed as a new medicine and a non-drowsy one. They have another called Calnight or something which is supposed to be the drowsy one. Cheeky Calpeople!

I'm sure I remember reading that someone had put this on baby's feet at night and found it effective?

try a bowl of boiling water with vicks in it near where she is sleeping, or bathing her with the vicks in the sink and the bathroom nice and steamy.

tyxilix cold is a good one..it has the decongestant but not the sedative that medised has....ask in boots i was recomenned to try it when i asked for the same kind of thing "a decongestant but not with the sedative"

it has a lovely taste to like a raspberry vanilla taste...yummy :)

i cant remember the exact name but im sure its tyxilix cold...it does say it may cause drowsiness but it doesnt not like calcold/medised.

hope this helps u hun

I read that too! Bizzare! And my Mum tried it with Vicks when she had a cold and she said it worked a treat but she had hot feet all night! :D

I have only used the drowsy ones on stephen at night time and I believe I did the best thing for him because come the next day he had slept well partly from the medicine he was feeling better and I found recovered quicker.

Sorry if any of you find that harshe but i did what I felt was right at the time and didnt do it to keep him quiet or so I could sleep. He genuinly benefitted from having something to sleep better. So im all for drowsy medicines but for the right use and night time only.
Karvol is brilliant Valentine, and they even do a plug in as well. They worked with lo when she was tiny. And I used nasel drops as well to dissolve the snot.

I hope Ella feels better soon.

Thanks girls.

I bought a Karvol plug-in and baby Olbas oil and its made a real difference, she's less snuffly (although still a bit) but much much happier - yesterday, she was such a grizzlebum - she was going on eBay!

I also bought some New Era tablets for coughs and colds - just like the teething ones but in a white/green tub - they seem to be helping her too.

mrs tommo - I don't think you were harsh - I've used Medised/Calpol a few times etc but I just was looking for alternatives.

Xxx

I got Arianna the other week drops for the nose... They are called Nasosal and it's just for clearing blocked noses...

It's basically just a saline solution - they worked a treat and can be used from birth!
