as with all rodents life span is average 3 yrs, though we had the most amazing 2 rescues who lived to 3 and a half!!
I understand the tail think, they are a bit random, but its a main part of there fabulous balancing acts!!
ok I wont slap your mommy......(though I bit me mils head off when she came in one day, she knew we had rats, she knew they lived in a cage in the kitchen but when she came in she still started flapping and freakin like a headless chicken!)
One of the things I prefer rats over hamsters is this..
hamsters if they escape..they run thats it youll be lucky to get em back!
but rats...
we went to my in laws for xmas last yr and left ratties at home it was just one night, wwhen we got back we realised the lil blighters had managed to open the door and escape, but they hadnt gone far, they basically had had a nosey round and then gone back into the cage! when we found em, 2 were curled up snoreing, another was playing by the door, a fourth was sat on top of the cage looking at us as to say, haha see we can escape we just to fat and lazy to bother!!!
