OMG rats!!! bleugh

The hamster kinda makes me shudder a bit let alone a rat lol

i can understand people shudderin at hamsters coz they nippy lil blighters,

but rats? why???!
They are one of the cleanest of rodents, they are sociable and love human interaction, they are intellegant, so easy to handle and more trustworthy around children then hamsters!!!!
I could go on!!

They are just full of diseases to me (i no pet ones arent but its the association i have with them)

IMO i cant stand to look at them, i just find them freaky. make me shudder

I think rats are very cute but I am so used to hamsters that the rats tails freak me out a bit so I could never hold one but I still like them if that makes sense! Your boys are so well looked after :D

Just remembered something.

When I was seventeen, my dads a market trader and I went to work with him one day as I was bored out of my skull. Someone had left a little box after packing away and my dad saw it move. I didn't go anywhere near it incase there was a spider in there, but he got it and opened the box and there was a little white rat in there. He was absolutely beautiful. I assume it was a he. So friendly, very cute, sat on my lap, didn't run off. So I took him home. I decided after a bit though (even though mum and dad both said I could keep it) I didn't really have the time to look after it and didn't want to have it and not look after it properly, so I took it to the vets who made me feel so guilty for getting rid. I think they thought he was mine and I just didn't want him anymore. He was lovely! I want a ratty!

as with all rodents life span is average 3 yrs, though we had the most amazing 2 rescues who lived to 3 and a half!!

I understand the tail think, they are a bit random, but its a main part of there fabulous balancing acts!!

ok I wont slap your mommy......(though I bit me mils head off when she came in one day, she knew we had rats, she knew they lived in a cage in the kitchen but when she came in she still started flapping and freakin like a headless chicken!)

One of the things I prefer rats over hamsters is this..

hamsters if they escape..they run thats it youll be lucky to get em back!

but rats...
we went to my in laws for xmas last yr and left ratties at home it was just one night, wwhen we got back we realised the lil blighters had managed to open the door and escape, but they hadnt gone far, they basically had had a nosey round and then gone back into the cage! when we found em, 2 were curled up snoreing, another was playing by the door, a fourth was sat on top of the cage looking at us as to say, haha see we can escape we just to fat and lazy to bother!!!

Point me in the right direction of rat cages, stuff to buy etc pleaseeee, cos I'm quite considering it.

Well when I seen a girl drop a hamster on the floor in pets at home, it squealed and she just threw it back in the cage, I don't think I will be buying any animal from there

Thanks for that, I'll have a chat with OH and see what he says. Probably no, in which case, yes.
