Any advice on dreamfeeding? I did it for the first time last night as lo was sleeping through fab before Xmas 10-8 but has now lost routine and is waking in the night again normally about 4.30 to the dot, he had his second lot of injections yesterday and the rotavirus vaccine. We bathed him and gave him his bottle at 8pm which he fell asleep half way through and it was very difficult to wake him up! We managed to get 5oz down him and put him in his cot which he was fine for 5 minutes then screamed after getting a small burp out of him he went straight to sleep I dreamed him at 10:40 in his cot however he was pulling his legs up towards himself as if he had wind and he had 4oz he kept stirring so I got him out and rubbed his back but nothing. I woke at 1am with him absolutely screaming and was inconsolable I tried to calm him down but nothing worked I changed his nappy winded him cuddled him rocked him, eventually I gave him calpol and after 10-15 mins of more screaming he stopped and fell asleep in our bed so I put him back in his own and then woke again with him crying at his most recent usual time 4:30 i gave him his dummy and left the room which he spat it out and cried again so I gave up and brought him into our bed which he went back to sleep but stirred a lot , this morning when I woke him at 8:15 when I was feeding him he pumped around 15 times and soiled, I'm just confused of what caused it wether it was his injections that affected him or wether it was the bottle before bed and the dreamfeeding that filled him up with wind and caused him pain. I am going to try the dream feed again tonight and see whether this happens again. How does everyone else dream feed and have you experienced anything like this with immunisations. He has never been that bad in the night. Xx

My LO had his yesterday and has no effects from it and still slept 7:30-6. He is 14 weeks tho and I'm sure his injections are around 12 weeks but due to Xmas and holidays the date I was given was yesterday. I found at 12 weeks my LO was waking on occasions but they have a leap around that time for a few weeks I think. I've never done a dream feed but my LO is so tired after his bath that he doesn't always finish his last bottle so I give him a larger bottle the one before bed. Sorry can't be much help just giving my experience and hope that you have a better night tonight xx

It sounds to me that it's probably the vaccination but I wouldn't bother dream feeding. If he's happy to sleep from 8-4.30am you're doing well. Let him sleep, if he's hungry he'll wake but if he's not you're filling him up with milk unnecessarily that's just lying in his stomach. I do a last feed at around 8pm & my lo normally goes until 4am ish when he wakes hungry. He's got a cold at the moment so he's waking earlier so I feed him earlier (around 2am ish) but then he gore back until 7.30am. I'm guessing your lo is around 12 weeks? My advice would be not to dream feed but follow his lead & feed him when he wakes for a bottle x

Oh & at 12 weeks my lo had a massive growth spurt for 4 days, I couldn't do anything to stop the crying, eventually I realised he was just extra hungry so gave him 12oz & he was fine!! Maybe try upping his last feed x

He's 14 weeks 15 weeks sat because of Xmas he has had his jabs late aswel. I might try a larger bottle before his bedtime bottle however I don't like him falling asleep while feeding as will shock him even more when he wakes that I am gone etc. he has had a cold recently just getting over it so think its a number of things why he is waking he was going down at 10 sleeping till 8 but because he was tired I brought it forward not sure wether to met him have a small nap then put him down at 10 again going from sleeping 10-8 to waking at 4ish is a shock to the system lol thought we'd got past that stage. Thanks for your replies xx

I love dreamfeeds! I do one at 11pm, and LO then goes through until 7-ish. Generally with a dreamfeed you won't get wind, as they are so relaxed when they take it.

Personally, I would try another dreamfeed, as their vacs can affect them (I was told they affect different babies in different ways, and the rotovirus is a live vaccine so can have an affect). Then at least you will know whether it suits him or not. It is one way of eliminating that 4/5ish am feed.

Sounds like rotavirus side effects. my little one had her first round on monday and has been writhing in pain and vomitting, and been very clingy this week. I have been letting her fall asleep in my arms while feeding or sucking on my finger (she won't take a dummy), as otherwise she just screams and can't fall asleep. She's not been any more upset at waking up alone in her cot, often just lies there cooing happily to herself when she wakes up.
