I was feeling a bit uncomfortable yesterday and after work we headed to the Liverpool summer pops to watch Girls Aloud (i know - credibility completely dropped!!). anyway I was getting a lot of Braxton hicks and the movemnets the baby were making were uncomfortable to say the least. The BH's started to come regularly - every 2 to 3 minutes and started getting really strong. They were not particularly sore but very strong, never had BH's like it. To cut a long story short I was taken to hospital. They ran a cardio and TOCO trace and cofirmed that I was having contractions and they told me that they were going to put me on a drip and give me steroids for the baby's lungs and something else to stop my contractions.

After an internal and a scan they decided that my cervix wasn't opening and was the right size. I was discharged this afternoon. I am still getting these things every 3 mins or so. I was just wondering what you guys would do in my situation. If I am still in this position in 24 hours do I go back? How long do I leave this going on for before I should take further action? Im confused, sore, tired and worried cos Ive still got 11 weeks to go!

Gosh

I haven't been in your situation but would probably say to keep hassling them if it carries on and if they won't have any of it then just go back.. surely it's not right for it to be so regular, and you need to make sure they keep an eye on you so your little one stays in til s/he's fully cooked!

hiya

I would call the NHS doctor if your not happy and see what they say, are they keeping an eye on you anyway? as in you have to go in everyday?

If they get longer or more painful i would go straight in

Good luck

It was quite frustrating to be honest - they were nice enough to me but kinda felt they thought I was being a bit of a panicky mum and kept referring to them as tightenings. Now this is my second pregnancy and although I am nnot saying I am in labour or aything but Im a bit concerned at the regularity and strength. I have just had 3 whilst writing this!!

I would call them again or just turn up, my 2nd was born at 28 weeks and none of monitors even picked up i was in labour and they wanted to send me home, i knew i was in labout but because they said i wasn't i believed them, you know best go with your instinct after all you've done it before :)

Thanks guys.

They havent asked me to go back - only if it starts to hurt or if they start to get regular!! 3 mins apart obviously not regular enough! :wall:

Well don't let them make you feel you can't go in, good luck hopefully just BH :)

Jendon your hospitao sound as useless as mine! I hope they all calm down and you can get back to having a normal pregnancy again, but if you feel something is seriously worng then go in and refuse to leave till they examine you properly and test you.

Sorry to hear about your contractions. Seems to me the hospital are a bit bad by just letting you go without proper advice.

If you are worried can you ring your community midwife? or your GP?
