Adapalene (epiduo) for acne while ttc

Just wanted to see if anyone knows about this, as I am currently somewhat freaking out

I am using epiduo (which is an adapalene/benzoyl peroxide cream) for my acne, I used to take tetracycline but stopped a month before we started ttc (November 2013). I went to go see my doctor then who said indeed I had to stop the antibiotics but the cream was fine. Now I've been doing some reading and turns out because there have not been enough tests using topical adapalene you shouldn't use it during pregnancy (apparently the ingested adapalene caused birth defects in rats when tested). I am now somewhat freaking out! In the tww and have been using this cream! What if I am pregnant?! I need to make an appointment with one of the doctors tomorrow, want to see someone on Monday and find out a. How she could make such a mistake and b. What I can use.

Anyone had experience with (topical) acne meds while ttc or pregnant?

Hi delta, I'd err on the side of caution and stop using it. I'm in a similar boat, I use azelaic acid gel for rosacea. When I was last pregnant the dermatologist told me that there were no 'known' side effects. So I continued using it sparingly. I've been using it in my current 2ww but it suddenly dawned on me that he was looking in a reference book which could've been outdated potentially. So the other day I googled it and although there were conflicting reports there were ones which which advised not to use in pregnancy. So I have stopped. It's easier said than done but try not to worry too much as this won't do you any good. You're doing the right thing by seeing a doc. I'd hope that in the 2ww before implantation it would be way too early for things like that to have an effect anyway but obvs that's just my guesswork from being in a similar situation. it's frustrating isn't it, when they don't really know?! I chucked it all out last night when I found out. Just a bit annoyed with the doctor and hip guess just worried since I have been using it (although only tiny amounts) almost every night, it might just be in my system already hopefully the doctor can out my mind at ease.
