I cant't wait to do the course either lisa, as i really feel i can relate to alot of mothers out there. I do think all midwives and health workers should be trainer in Bfing. When i gave birth i saw 4 different MW's who tried to get kyla latched on, the last of the four was carol (the lady that has encourged me and lisa to do the course) the first 3 had failed and had been trying for many hours, i felt terrible as they were poking and proding lol, and didnt seem to know what they were doing. Carol within 2 mins had kyla latched on so that shows the others didnt have a clue.
I was transfered to neath hospital then for them to continue helping me. I saw 5 MW's (i even have their names written down because i wanted to complain about them) They were all useless at helping me breastfeed and once again kyla wouldn't latch on. I fell really patronised by most of them and that night i wrote down what i was going to say in the morning which was, i was putting kyla on the bottle coz i couldnt stand the MW's. The next morning however a health worker came in and put me at ease at once, she talked to me as tho i was the only important one on the ward (which is how i think you should be made to feel, not made to feel, like i should just give into the bottle to let them have a bed back) The health worker had been trained by Carol and within 5 mins kyla was latched on. The health worker came in for every feed while she was working to latch her on and then taught me how to do it.
I think its a good idea for a pregnant woman hoping to BF to go along to a BFing group if you have one in your area, as alot of people in our group dont mind letting you see how they position the baby etc. I knew nothing of BFing and felt totally alone when i gave birth so i think support is the key.
Sorry Morgan we kind of hijacked your post, i leaked alot for the first 6 weeks or so then not much.
