Well I've not lost anything thankfully but I felt a pop when I peed earlier I have no idea what it was but nothing was on the tissue when I wiped so possible babies head has dropped further? I have no idea what my body is doing right now if I'm honest. I know most aches pains and cramps are normal at this point but it was strange and as per I worry about the slightest things xxx

Asking for a friend as she hasn't got a profile yet, she has never been pregnant before and would like to know how a contraction feels like? (This would help me too later on) she hasn't had braxton hicks either so she's confused, she woke up with a cramps feeling and then her bump got tight and then eased off kept doing that for an hour or so and is steadily getting worse she can't drive and is on her own as her partner is away (I'll be taking her to the antenatal unit soon) she said baby feels high up as in bum is poking out a little and she's had her plug on tissue but it's small and is losing more she's now very panicked but I've been on the phone with her for half an hour. Do contractions peak and drop and keep doing that as she said they haven't eased off her bump feels like "someone's got the skin and pulled it tight" not sure if that is....Christ I'm useless. Thanks ladies xxx

I regret googling this pop feeling!!! Tip to self do not Google!

She just needs to phone triage. You know when your in labour put it that way

Okay I'll tell her to phone them and see if she's got to go in or not, thank you xxx

Yea it's hard when your posting for someone else who really sounds unsure. Speaking to triage direct midwifes will ask all the right questions and stuff :)

I'm new to all this but I would say always call the midwife if you're unsure. That's their job and they'd rather you called then worried I'm sure.

Thank you ladies, really appreciate the help and advice. we are up at the unit she's having a check in a min feel so bad for her cause she's really upset she wants her hubby but baby is very active which is brilliant. They think her waters have gone she's 37 weeks and a bit so full term....I may get to see another friend give birth but she's being strong I gave her a big cuddle and said she was amazing which tbh she is she's had a lot of crap lately and she appreciates all your help too. Will update soon hopefully this is it for her she's excited too xxx

Well her waters did in fact break she's having regular contractions now so not long hopefully and little one will be here :D so exciting!!! I asked if she wanted me here and I'm now her birthing partner. She's in a lot of pain but they are regular and she's doing well already 6cm dilated!!! Keep you posted when baby is here xxxx

My waters broke with a pop feeling and sound that hurt a bit, then when I got up they started leaking out x

Trust me I didn't, I was half way down and been in established labour for hours before I phoned the midwives.. Everyone kept telling me you'll know you're in labour because of the pain.. I expected it to be far worse as everyone described to me.. People thought because i'm so squeamish that I could not labour without epidural.. Ended up on the drip, being cut and third degree tear on gas and air.. So no I don't agree with you know when you're in labour... Though I do agree with phoning triage as the midwives know exactly if you are or not or what it may be if you're not..

How do you know you were in established labour for hours if you didn't know you were in labour lol?

Lucky you!

The popping sound was exactly how my waters went - but who am I to tell her that the popping could have been her waters!

Glad she's now contracting wtc - lucky her at 37 weeks! I'm envious lol

The pop was me, I've nothing follow from it except the same effing period pains/cramps like I've had before which was Tuesday-Saturday and has been on and off since Sunday so I'm not thinking on it I'll see how I go and if he decides it's time then I'll ask the midwife to check me. Thanks ladies she's doing so well but is now wanting an epidural herself she's a tough cookie!! Xxx

Well my friend has just had a beautiful little girl! Named Lillie-rose :,) absolutely magical she was born at 2:40pm and weighs 7,1 happy healthy and a right set of lungs on her, I can't post a picture sadly as she asked me not too but thank you so much for your advice and help...she's so little. Very happy and one massive well done to mummy for getting her out so quickly xxx

I have asked her before I post cause I don't want to upset her, it went really really well and fast! For her first I was impressed! She did sadly tear it's not horrific just a small one I very stupidly went down business end at one point and the. Once she needed my hand again I went back to her side she was amazing I cried when Lillie screamed at us it was just so incredible I know I won't be thinking that when its my turn. Mummy and baby will be home in a few days her mum is with her now I just felt so proud of her and also very honoured to be there as her partner xxx

Aww congrats to your friend Violet, and what a nice friend being there so her well done you, what a special moment.
I also don't agree that you know when you're in labour, so many false labours and self referrals that lead to nothing because ladies just don't know.
And I also didn't know I was in established labour after being induced, even the midwife didn't believe that I was.
People cope with pain differently and can push it to the back of their mind, like I did with my first. Hence my thread as I'm still not sure I'll know, especially if you haven't done it before a lot of ladies are lead to believe that aches and pains are normal at the end of pregnancy so with out the obvious pain of being Nearly fully dilated or waters bursting etc it's hard to tell the difference I find.
It's interesting to actually see the signs I never thought I'd second guess!! ️Xx

I'm confused I thought the popping and wee'ing sensation were the same thing and then the contractions followed!

I didn't rwalise there were 2 different things in original post and didn't read it properly!

So there's me going hang on- her waters popped like peeing ( I read it like that not that se felt a pop when having a wee) and that she's been having bump contractions etc

Blame the 17 month old keeping me busy and 2 different people being spoken to

I knew I was in labour - not because it was painful - because I must have lost about 6 pints of water and period pains followed by contractions

My waters didn't break until nearer the end haha, during pre-labour I was happily shopping around thinking I was having braxton hicks if anything, I only started losing my plug at night once the contractions come on stronger after I lost my plug I went into active labour (at the time thinking right this is pre labour) as everything built up so slowly!

The popping feeling was me not my friend haha. I assumed it'd be easier to just post on my thread instead of making a new one. I haven't had any loss of plug that I have noticed just uncomfortable with some cramps and twinges so maybe baby's gotten comfy he has dropped this morning alot so feeling heavy down low and like I need to pee all the time and even after I feel something bending/ giving in and pushing down I think it's his head.

My friend is coming home tomorrow so I got her spare keys and asked her what she wanted me to prepare and ended up crying her eyes out saying I was too nice and she'd been nasty To me which it was just her hormones I know that when she snapped at Me so it's not a bother I gave her a big hug, baby and her are doing fab she's latched pretty quickly too. so will be setting up the Moses basket for her, the bassienate for downstairs which is really light and flick the Hoover round and make her a few meals to freeze. Her mum has been with her over night which was lovely xxx

Amazing! What a lovely experience. Hopefully made you more excited about your big day. You're a lovely friend.
