Right thank you millions in advance. Here goes...

I am due to finish my teaching contract at a school in dec (they said they wont be renewing as its a catholic school and im not married/pg etc). My old boss has said he could give me a couple of weeks work after christmas etc so that should be okay. After that I wont have a job and will be 7 months.

My oh is doing a pgce which means he is at uni till june 2009 and wont have a proper job till sept 09. although he may be able to get some summer work. We wont be moving in together till feb 09.

What things/ entitlement could i look into? It's not that I am choosing not to work but am unsure anyone will hire me come march when im the size of a house.
Help! xxx

Surely them not renewing your contract because your pregnant is discrimination

YEa that sounds well out of order!! I'd be speaking to the CAB/ACAS cos I'm sure they can't do that!

I disagree with the previous posters - if your contract has come to an end they don't have any obligation to renew it. You would be able to apply for the position if it is advertised though and I don't think it is legal to discriminate against you then (though I don't know if they get special rights to discriminate because they are catholic school through saying that you have to have the same ethos ).

It might be worth looking for another job now. You don't have to say at any interviews that you are pregnant if you don't want to.

If you work for them until you are 25 weeks (regardless of if they are just keeping you on for a few weeks after your contract has ended) they will have to pay you SMP. If not, you will be entitled to MA>

I know it sounds terrible as it is the year 2008 but I know they're under no legal obligation to renew my contract.

Just wondered what I would be entitled to.

I have to give 6 weeks notice and only have 10 left so just sticking it out.

Thanks girls xx
