So i am just over 8 weeks with our first baby. I have looked into getting an early scan booked for the Day after fathers day as a surprise to my husband. The thing that is bothering me is, am i tempting fate? i feel like im still in the unknown zone, and id be silly to see our baby too early. ill be about 10 weeks when I have planned to go.

Hi hun,

I had 3 scans before I turned 11 weeks (only 1 was private, other was nhs and our ivf clinic). I was terrified before each of them but they were well worth it. The one at 10 weeks 1 days was brilliant, so clear and we could see baby moving it's little arms and legs. I don't think it's tempting fate at all. I'm very much of the opinion if something is going to happen it will, having scans won't change that! If you want to get one then go for it. I think it's rare nowadays for people not to have early scans xx

Thank you :) I think it will make it really special to see baby, as it's fathers day. Just to know baby is in the right place would make me so happy. I've had three close females experience an ectopic, one was as late as 9/10 weeks. Don't suppose the worrying is going to go away anytime in the next 7 months hey lol x

I agree with mrsS entirely. Having a scan won't change anything but it will for now give you reassurance which can only be a good thing x

There's absolutely nothing wrong with getting an early scan for reassurance. I had my early scan at 6 weeks 6 days (but she ended up putting me back 5 days at 6 weeks 1 day), and it was amazing. OH and I couldn't see a hell of a lot, but we could see that our little bean was there and it was magical - especially to see the little heart beat fluttering away like a fine little feather. I had the scan for reassurance as I was getting a discharge just before - but everything was fine.

If it's what you feel like you need to do, then go for it, you'll love it!

I had an early scan at 8 + 2 and saw the babys heartbeat it was magical x

I've done it, all booked :)

I'll be 10 weeks i think, or there about. i estimated i was 7 weeks last week and the midwife put me at 8. So ill be a week ahead of what i thought, if that makes sense

If you'll be reassured from it great!

I had an early scan in my last pregnancy at about 10 weeks and then after I got home from the appointment I spent the next 2 weeks until the NHS scan worrying the baby I had just seen had died.

Not at all rational I know but that's what happened.

This time I've had a scan after my ectopic in march to check its in the right place. They can't conclude a viable pregnancy because they have only seen a sac and a yolk sac. So I have another week of torture to see if it has grown into a baby

This must be an awful thing you are going through, Im so sorry to hear about your Ectopic. It's so unfair  The things you have said are exactly why i am worried about having an early scan. If you don't mind me asking, how far gone were you when your ectopic was detected?

I hope its good news for you lovely x

It will be a lovely dad's day pressie x

Thank you, i just hope it goes ok! Congratulations on your baby news i can see in your ticker, looks like you have had quite a hard journey with motherhood. Your babies names are beautiful, are they both of Irish origin? I am looking for Irish names, but Ive only got so far as boys names. My Husband is part Irish, and baby was conceived in Dublin during our anniversary celebrations, seems fitting x

Since you'll be 10 weeks when you have it done, you will most likely see baby moving around on the screen. That'll be a lovely present for your OH xx

Thank you lovely, hope so. It's booked now! Not sure when ill tell him, but he'll be over the moon. He's so excited. Neither of us have had it sink in yet i don't think. Cause im not suffering too badly with pregnancy symptoms, it's almost like its not real x

It was 4 weeks after my positive test. I think about 7-8 weeks.

In this pregnancy I've had 2 early early scans already and at my 9week scan I was amazed to see little legs kicking away! It was great x

Thanks for your advice and experiences, appreciate it. Just hope I have the same positive experience as most of you x

I had a private scan at 11 weeks and was so glad I did, I couldn't believe how much you can see so early!

It'll be great, good luck xx

I had a private one at 7 weeks after a bit of brown bleeding. It was great to have it confirmed that baby had a heartbeat and was where it should be. I still worried before my 12 week scan as I knew my 7 week scan didn't guarantee everything would carry on being ok, but I knew that it meant a good chance, so helped me feel a lot more positive. Nearly 13 weeks now. :)

Thank you for the reassurance. Be lovely to see it on a screen. Some days I don't even feel pregnant and it gets me scared. Just praying it's good news when we go x

I had a lot of the 'not feeling pregnant at 8 weeks plus. Really freaked me out as my symptoms seemed to be going. All was fine. I should have enjoyed the 'feeling normal' rather than freaking out, but it is totally normal to worry.
