6week check up

i was woundering what is involved. i always thought that you got a smear test, but someone from here said they didnt have one.

so did you have a smear at your 6week check?

i just got my blood pressure taken, a half hour appointment from a nurse for that .
i was told that i would get sent out an appointment from the doctors for a smear as they have a list that send out automatic appointments when they do them, but i still havent recieved it yet.

I have never had a smear and I was told that you don't get one until you are 25 now. I think it's disgusting and just another way of the NHS trying to cut costs. At my 6 week check she stripped Jake off to check him all over and then just asked me if I had any questions or concerns. She didn't even check my tummy which I thought was strange.

wow thats really bad. i thought they would do a smear to check that everything is in place and there are no infections ect.

25 was saying to my mom its rediculous as kids are having sex at like 12 now

I know I rang when I was 21 and they said it was 22 so I rang back when I was 22 and they said the age was now 23 and so I have rang now i'm 23 and it's now 25. I think it is really bad seeing as I have been sexually active for quite a few years now and i've had a baby.

I had my 6 week check last week and had a smear... it wasn't the most pleasant experience. I would have prefered to wait a few weeks or even months until I am feeling completely back to normal.

she asked me if i had ever had one and i said no and she didnt say anything else on the subject!

 

I didn't have a smear done - one of the midwives in hospital said i'd have to make an appointment for one, she never said anything about the 25 thing

I had my last smear only 18 months ago, so as I wasn't 'due' I didn't have one.
My 6 week check was a joke though here is what happened:

GP - How do you feel?
Em - Okay thanks
GP - Good, remember to do your pelvic floor exercises
Em - I will, I try to do them each time I feed
GP - Good Good.

The End

This was after I was told by GP I wouldn't get a 6 week check, then got a letter saying I had to go in for one a week later

It is 25yrs for a smear, unless you are sexually active and then they should do one earlier. They should book you up as soon as they know you're having sex.

You can insist on having one, they can't refuse you. I would if I hadn't already had one. It's very important to get checked regularly.

I have to have smears every 6 months, after i had cameron i had abnormal cells and had to have a colposcopy (sp) which fooking hurt.. since ive had 4 abnormal smears and had repeated and they been fine.. but yes i have to have 1 at my 6 week check, but will be refusing if im still bleeding like i am! i was due my smear in november and they couldnt do it with me being pregnant!

That is really bad im shocked!

At my 6wk check the GP mainly checked Isaac, if you look in your red book, it will list all the checks your LO will have

As for Mummy, well I told her I wasn't well down there, she just said it;s normal, didn't check and no mention of a smear, just contraception Told my HV and she was annoyed and said I need to ring surgery and get a nurse to check me.

So, in this area, no they don't do a smear but if you're having an internal, I guess it could kill two birds with one stone as they say to have one

im 2o and have never had one. except for an internal when i bled in late pregnancy.

so it doesnt look like ill be having one then. quite bad really isnt it. what if something is wrong down there
