Hi
Just wondering if anyone has not had one? My son is 8 weeks now. He had his injection yday. My midwife told me to ring the drs when he was 6weeks for me to go for my check. The Dr rang me back and said unless I needed contraception which atm I don't that she does not need to see me. She asked how I was feeling an I told her I was sore but ok. Again was told she didn't need to see me. But I thought they had to check ur stitches ect. I had a forceps delivery and episiotomy. So would have thought they would wanna make sure I've heeled proper as I did have anti biotics for infections. But again this was prescribed over phone after midwife swabbed!! I just want to know other people's experience before I ring them lol

Baby should get checked too at 6-8 weeks - have a look in your red book and call the doctor back.

Baby's had his check all is well. It's me that they said they don't need to see x

Oh right - me and LO were done together at the GPs. The GP didn't examine me although I had stitches and only really asked how I was and about contraception. Do you feel like something is wrong 'downstairs'? x

No I feel ok after 2nd lot of anti biotics. I'm still a lil sore but I think that's to be expected after forceps delivery. I just wasn't sure if they did any checks lol. 1st baby so no idea. X

I had my forceps delivery almost 6 years ago now, so things might have changed but I was the same as you, they didn't check me at 6 weeks but I was under the impression I should be checked from what the midwives at the hospital said. I wonder if when they say check they mean just ask how we're feeling and check if we think there are any problems?

Must be hun. Cuz they don't seem bothered about physically checking me lol !! I just hope all has gone back to normal down there lol. Did you hAve a episiotomy ? X

Yeah I did and the way they checked and then said someone would check me again when I was at home I was expecting a physical check too. If you feel fine then I wouldn't worry, or this might be a bit gross, but maybe take a look yourself with a mirror or ask your partner to have a look (not that I'd know what I was looking for if I did that)

Midwife checked and she said it was healing fine but that was few weeks back before I was discharged from the midwives. And I don't think anything wrong. But I just had it in my head the gp would want to look lol. And I can't bring myself to look yet lol. How long did it take you to feel normal again ? I'm 8post Labour an overview just about feeling less sore !! Have u had any baby's since ?? X

I can't remember how long it took me to feel normal again, sorry.

Unfortunately my little boys dad was abusive, I left him when little one was 2 months old, so no more babies for me... although I've been with my now fiancé for 5 years almost and we want to have a baby.... so hopefully another one soon (I will be like a first time mum though as I've forgotten so much)

Aww sorry to hear that. But glad you had the courage to leave must have been hard. Aww well good luck with the baby making and hope you get away with the forceps this time lol x

Thank you, it's not all bad-I wouldn't be without my son he is amazing, so I suppose these things happen for a reason.

Hope you are feeling back to normal soon x (love that pic, your son is gorgeous by the way, I meant to say before)

I also had a forceps delivery, but with the addition of a haematoma. I did have a 6 week postpartum check, but to be honest I may as well not have. After forceps delivery you should really be referred to a women's health physio as you are at risk of pelvic floor dysfunction. Unfortunately the way the NHS works is unless you have major symptoms they aren't interested (can you tell I have had a bad experience!).
Three things are very important postpartum (and I have learnt the hard way about this):
1) Get your pelvic floor checked, make sure you are doing your Kegels correctly and also that the while of your pelvic floor is working. I went to see so many doctors after having my LO as I was convinced that I had a proloapse, but after 9 months of being told I didn't have one I went to see a private women's health physio. Firstly I wasn't doing my Kegels correctly and my pelvic floor wasn't contracting completely. But after 3 session working me here it is working properly.

2) Get your abdominal muscles checked. This is something I didn't have checked. Your abdominals separate when you are pregnant, but with most women they come back together a few weeks after birth. But with other (like me) they don't. They cause a weakness and can lead to a hernia (which I now also have). So it is important to get this checked.

3) rebuild your core. With all the pressure from the baby and separation of your abs, you core become very weak. You can start these exercise a few days after having the baby. You have to build you core before you do any other exercises, and you also contract you pelvic floor and core when you lift things, especially the baby.

I had a terrible experience postpartum, and I think much of it would have been avoidable if I'd know some of this stuff, so I just wanted to pass it on in the hope that it may help someone

Aww thanks for the info. My LO is 14 weeks now I'm all good and feeling better. I started exercising few weeks back and feel like I'm building up core muscles again. I did and still do pelvic floor exercises and feel like they work. I was never referred to see anyone after forceps delivery tho !

You tend to get anti-biotics with a stitches due to tearing or cut. This is a prevention measurement you don't necessarily have an infection. The drs does not need to see you, except if you want to be checked out. The thing is THEY tell you as if you get this all automatically sent in the post but it's not if you want to see the doctor and have it checked out you will have to book the appointment yourself. I was checked out 2-3 weeks post partum went back for contraceptives the week after then asked about the 6 week and was told it's optional but would have to book it myself if I want to be seen x

I'm really happy that you are feeling ok, it sounds like you have everything under control ;) maybe one day I will feel that way too.
Best of luck
