6 weeks gone, what happen next? *Update*

Hello all,

I am new here, I am sorry if I ask any silly quetions!! I had positive home pregnany test result so I call my GP to make an appointment but instead of booking one for me they sent me to the hospital for a pregnancy test, and I have to wait for a week for the result, it makes me all nervous gain (even though I know I am pregnant, i have all the systomps and everything) so what is going to happen next ? when do I get my first scan? and when do I find out the sex of my baby? ( I can't wait to start shopping for my new comer!!)

***I phoned my GP to confirm my pregnancy test result yesterday and they told me that I was not pregnant ,I was shocked because I know I am, so after explained to them I had already had 2 positive result from the home test they agreed to send me to the hospital for a test AGAIN. Meanwhile I bought another 2 tests and the results were both positive. (I knew I was right )I am really stressed out now, I don't really like waiting around now I have to wait for another week b4 I can phone them again ...... my husband is taking me out tomorrow to cheer me up, I am so glad I have him and u guys that I can turn to.


*** GOOD NEWS my gp phoned today, she confirmed that I am pregnant and she gave me an appt. for next week to see the gp, she said its a "booking appointment" . Now I feel much better, I was abit worried because I don't have any symptoms except from a missed period, now I can sit back, relax and enjoy my pregnancy!!

They'll do a pregnancy test to confirm you are pregnant then probably arrange your booking in appointment with the midwife for around 9-10 weeks. Then you'll probably get a scan at about 12 weeks and another at 20 weeks, you may be able to find out the sex of the baby at this one.

I think the midwife sees you once a month at first then as you get further on she sees you more. Not quite sure

First of all congratulations!!

What will probably happen, is that once you get your positive result back from the hospital they will put a midwife in touch with you to come in and have a chat and for your booking in appointment, where they just ask abiout your medical history, weigh you, etc.

I got my first scan at 12 weeks but some people get them earlier or some later, think it all depends on how far you are on and the area you are!

How far on do you think you are then?

After your test, you should make an appt with your m/w for about 8-9 weeks and get your 10-12 week scan booked in, I got a referral letter from my doc and reception booked it in for me

Hi. As already said, as long as everything is normal you will see the midwife at 8 wks and then 17wks (when you will have first blood taken).

She will also make a home visit about 10wks to right up personal history in your notes, and you have a scan at 12 weeks and 20 wks, then see the midwife again at 24 and 28wks, so it is once a month with the scans in.

I think this is until about 30 wks. Somebody further on or with children already will tell you for sure.

If there are any major problems then the appointments will be more tailored to your personal circumstance. For very minor problems they will treat as normal and monitor you.

You should find out the sex at the 20 wk scan. It seems ages away but will fly by, but anyway. Don't worry. You will find all of this out in due course, so unless there is anything you really can't wait to find out, just relax and go with it. You can't really be sure of very much right now.

Have you got morning sickness yet? I think it mostly sets on about now. It did with me, so any advice you need just ask. The girls here know their stuff.. Congratulation and good luck.

congratulations! once you get your positive result from the hospital you'll get an appointemnt for the midwife and a scan i should imagine.

depends on your area, but you should get a mw appointment at around 10 weeks and scan at around 12 weeks. x

U should have a scan at 12weeks then 20 weeks (some places 24) and u should be able to find the sex, unless baby doesnt want you to! lol!

All areas are different....heres what happens in North West

Doc apppointment after BFP, they didnt do test-no need as HPT is just as accurate...they then refer you to hozzie.

I had booking in app at 8 weeks, then 20 week scan (ask sex if you want to know-we didnt)

We then see midwife at doctors surgery @ 28 weeks, 34 weeks, 37 weeks, 39 weeks and 41 weeks if you go over.....
