I felt compelled to reply to this. I can't believe they have stopped the 6 week check-up. For new mums particularly, being able to get out of the 4 walls to talk to someone else is exactly what they need. I suppose I was lucky that I was very much encouraged to go to my check-ups because of my complicated pregnancy. Without wishing to sound dramatic, PND can start off very mild and to stop these check-ups is just irresponsible. Personally, I would urge any pregnant friends to go to them all...

...the NHS really need to make these check-ups compulsory. I'm normally the first to defend NHS, particularly mat units, but not in this case. :wall2:

I had my six week check on Monday last week and it was combined with Alex's check up. Considering the fact that they book it for you and send you a letter telling you when it is etc., I assumed that it was going to be a fairly thorough check up. It was pointless - the doctor briefly checked Alex over so she could tick some boxes in his Red Book, but I don't think she filled in everything, and I didn't feel like it was particularly thorough.

However, she paid more attention to him than she did to me! She asked whether I was okay, and whether I wanted any contraception. I said no and explained that the last doctor I'd seen had said to wait until at least 3 months before we have sex because of all the problems I've had with my stitches. Even after saying that I had to ask her to actually check my stitches. She prescribed a course of antibiotics (my fifth since giving birth) because she thinks they are still infected, and told me I could see a nurse when the antibiotics finished if I wanted to get them checked again.

I had a terrible cold and sore throat when I went, so my voice was really croaky and she just kept talking over me every time I tried to say anything. Just felt like she wanted us in and out as soon as possible. She's the same doctor I saw when I was pregnant and she was like it then too so I wasn't overly surprised. Think I'm going to request a different one next time I go.

They have no time at these check-ups. It's terrible really. Sorry you had a bad experience with yours.
