My friend had a little girl last night and was in labour for just 4 hours! This is her second, so I'm reassured now that I might be brave when I have this next one and not go for the epidural. Although knowing my luck I'll be in labour for days!

4 hours though, I'm pretty jealous

The first bit of my second labour wasn't too quick from the first twinges at 9pm at night to then when they got closer together about 5am (would guess i was about 7/8cm dilated by then) then it went quickly from there - got to hospital at 5.45, he was born just after 6. It was a much easier labour though, still hurt a little :rotfl: but not as bad as the first time and much easier simply because it was quicker. I coped fine with just gas and air.

This time I'll probably be the opposite i'll be so obsessed with getting to the hospital in time that i'll probably get there way too early!!!

xx

gosh lucky her :)

ive been getting cons since monday and im in early labor :(

I've only had one baby so far and mine was 1hr and 35mins  the next one will just pop out :rotfl:

oh my god! from start to finish?? I'd get to the hospital at about 39 weeks if i were you, just in case.

xx

From the start of established labour to when I was holding him was 1hr 35mins. I was having contractions for about and hour and half before but they were from the induction pessary, but it was no longer than 3.5hrs

The lucky ones here that have had short labours did your Mother have quick ones too?

Have heard lots of people say it is a heredity thing. I hope not my mother was a couple of days with both and and my brother.

I was induced with both my boys. My first ended in an emergency c-section (I blame the epidural!) Total time was 10 and half hours.

My second was quite quick once I got started, 2 hours 20 mins once in established labor with no epidural just gas and air and pethidine. :D

I really don't wont an epidural this time as I am sure it slowed it down and hence why I had the c-section! :x

My mum had me in 3 hours and my sister in 2 and a half (from first contraction to end) so I'm hoping it is hereditary!

my labour with dd was 5 1/2 hours from start to finish. i dont think it runs in the family tho cus my mum was never able to give birth naturally becus her pelvis dosent expand and after 27 hours of labour (with me :D ) they gave her a ceasarian(sp) and then they just opted for a caesarian(sp) with my sis becus she wouldnt be able to giv birth. my sister was in labour for about 9 hours i think from start to finish tho.

i hope becus this is my second the labour will either be the same or less but im unsure becus i was induced with first and apparently that has an effect on labour time.

xxxxx

I was in labour 28 hours with paris  I'm hoping I'll cough and this one is out

My mum was in labour with me for 48 hours    and I was 4 weeks premature, really hope it's not hereditry!!!

Total time from first contraction to baby shooting (and I mean shooting) out: 2 hours 30 minutes. Easy

The only problem with a fast labour is you're more likely to tear because you doesn't have enough time to stretch properly.

All I know about my Mum's labour with me was that I got stuck and had to be delivered by forceps (poor woman). Unfortunately she's not around to ask for any more details.

My Mother in Law had long labours with all three of hers but her Mum delivered both she and her brother (two separate births - they're not twins) in four hours. I'm inclined to think that there may be an heriditary factor but that it's probably more complicated than just if your Mum has had a short/long labour then you will too. (This is partly because I've read that some medical interventions can slow down labour and that you can speed things up yourself by keeping moving so there's presumably all sorts of factors at play.)

4 hours is brilliant for a second , my second was 10 hours, BUT my third was 1 hour 40 mins  from very first sign of labour to holding my daughter :D barely made the hospital and went from 4cm to 10cm in under 5 mins  behopes this one isnt any quicker or it will be born in a car
