I'm thirty eight weeks tomorrow & had an appointment today with the midwife - she tells me i'm 35 cms which means my bump hasn't grown since mid december :( :( :(

I've had head aches recently & visited the day assesment unit, they told me to take paracetamol & to rest....which i'm doing & it's helped a little with the head aches but i'm still getting them.

I went on a monitor & bumps heart rate is good, but I can't help feeling something is wrong.

any advice would be REALLY helpful.

love to all & there bumps

Hi

I thought this measurment was only a guess, and ive heard of girls measuring small and having bigger babies :)
Try not ot worry hun and rest

although the amount of weeks you are usually corresponds to the measurement, its only a guide as sometimes the baby can be laid in a different position, but if it was massively different ie 4-5cms, id expect the midwife would have mentioned it to you if she had any concerns

also it depends on how much fluid your carrying, body shape and height etc iirc

I heard that sometimes if the babys well into your pelvis the measurements can drop, please dont worry to much, but if you really feel that something isnt right please talk to your midwife, you will only get yourself worked up even more, she will reassure you

Thats right Tash, I measured 38cm @ 40 weeks on monday and expressed my concerns to midwife...she wasnt phased at all..if you look on your yellow notes there should be a growth graph where the MV plots the measurements each time you are measured and there are guide lines as to where there is a min and max growth recommendation...if your measurements fall outside of them, they would be concerned...yours are probably within those guides so dont be alarmed chicky  Ask your midwife to explain this to you..I did and she said my growth was "text book" which really reassured me

Try not to worry and enjoy the last few weeks xxxxx

I was going to say the same thing. Just try and relax hun if there was anything wrong your midwife wuld have mentioned it, and if you have any questions at the time of measuring just ask them, its what they are there for! I get embarrassed asking questions like that coz some mws make you feel silly for asking, but some dont! Hopefully you have a nice mw :) Just try and relax hun its easy to get worried all the time

And, each midwife's measurements may be slightly different depending which point they measure from. Apparently the fundal height thing doesn't really mean that much and is just an exercise that some places don't even carry out!

Daft question but what exactly do they measure? Like how do they know?

My midwife told me it was really just a guide, i measured 4 cms bigger than my weeks but Charlie was only 7lbs 13, as my stomach wasnt flat before hand there wasnt much chance of it measuring correctly!!!

from the top of your pubic bone to the top of the baby, about 2" down from your breastbone

If your MW and hospital are saying not to worry, I would try and not worry.

My friend baby was due beginning of Feb 06, but she had a check up in dec, her baby was small too, she was concerned by Jan when her bump still didnt get bigger so they did a scan and the baby hadnt grown, but the baby heartbeat was weak so she got started early......

But thats not the same situation as you, because your baby heartbeat is fine.

Also when my friend baby was delivered 4 weeks early she weighed 6lb thats a good weight i think.... I was 5lb something and was 2 weeks late.
