21 week scan + photos

Hi everyone,

thanks so much for your messages. Had the scan and everything is fine with the baby. Had a lovely sonographer who spent lots of time explaining what everything was etc..... all measurements etc.. are normal.

Baby was lying facing forward and refusing to roll over so all of our photos are face on. Serves me right for saying your scan photo looked spooky hey Duds!!

There is a bit of a problem that I have a very low lying placenta which is currently blocking the birth canal, so we have to have a scan at 36 weeks and could have to have a c-section (pretty much immediately) if it has not managed to move itself. She said that in most cases it does, so it is a very small chance, but it could develop into placenta previa, which is pretty nasty.... c'est la vie and all that. Not exactly the natural water birth I hope for, but we still get a baby at the end of it and that is the main thing......LA LA LA HAPPY THOUGHTS.....


We did not find out the sex, found out afterwards that they would not have told us even if we had asked, hospital policy as there is a very large asian community where I live (pressure to produce sons etc..).....

BUT - we both now have an overwhelming feeling it is a boy. I have no idea why, but we both said it the second we got out of the room. I never believed I would have a gut feeling on it before, as I was adamant I did not believe it was possible to guess.....so what do you reckon???

How addorable, it looks like its waving at you glad your sonographer took the time with you. Its a shame you couldnt find out the sex if you wanted to, it looks like it might be a boy tho (im no expert tho lol)

I'm so glad everything went well TopBird. I'm sure your placenta has plenty of time to move before the baby comes so don't worry too much about that now.

Great scan pictures by the way. It's very easy to make out the baby's features and I agree it does look like he's waving at you bless. I say "he" because I have a little feeling you might be having a boy. No reason at all except "female intuition". It'll be fun finding out in a few months won't it?

Hope things change by yoru next scan!
Its the same here for the most part as their are alot of people with different beliefs that would choose to abort if they are having an undesired sex but thankfully where i got mine done they told me .
I think its so dumb that they dont tell you places though i mean im sure there are not many cases of this now and it should be our right to know if we choose to

Oh what lovely pictures, I have a few days to wait for ours!! I think he's a little boy too...and cute that he's waving from inside too. Everso sweet. Glad you had a nice scanning person mine was a misery guts at the 12 week and praying she doesn't do the 21 week next Friday.....don't worry about the low laying placenta just yet, it only remains low laying in 5% of all women who have them....my 16 week private gender scan lady told me she thought mine looked a tad low but couldn't say for certain as it was too early so I've already got those thoughts in my head. But hey I'm sure it will correct it'self and lucky you having another scan at 36 weeks, I hate the thought that 21 weeks is the last time I'll see my pudding pre-birth type thing.

Oh and I've head that hospitals with a large muslim/asian community won't tell you the gender - it's such a shame but at least your getting your surprise.....there are always private scans for gender if you wanted to know in a few weeks time!? xxx

Hey TB,

I'm so glad you had such a lovely time at your scan - your little one definitely looks like a boy to me (but I think all scans look like little boys!). Spooky photos too!

I'm sorry to hear you've got the extra worry of the potential placenta praevia - I've been reading up on that recently (I read up on everything that can possibly go wrong!) and it sounds like it's quite likely it will right itself - please try not to worry too much.

that is what I thought too.... as he was face on. I asked her what something was which I was convinced was his tackle and she kind of hesitated and told me is was the bottom of his spine....... Bet it is a girl now!

Thanks for your support everyone, I am gutted about the low lying placenta but like you say it has plenty of time to move and is only a small chance it won't..... there is f*** all I can do about it, so might as well just get on with it!

Forogt to tell you this bit! got home from the hospital and our travel system had arrived! it is brilliant, we are thrilled with it. Played with it for hours last night, wheeling it around the house, taking it apart and putting it back together again. This is what we went for in the end, highly recommend this company too, really good service and I managed to negotiate a fat discount!

Oh what a happy ending to the day....I remember ours arriving I done the same thing, set it up, played with it, pushed it around the hallways in the house etc....so much fun!!

ahh congratulations topbird, great pic still ! I think a boy also... cant really see but girls have 3 white lines which i cant see so i say boy.

Hopefully your placenta will shift, mine is on the right side but they only go up apprantly not down.
