Title says it all and it is ear piercing and painful. The screams/squeals/screeches come as part of a tantrum/crying. Any words of advice on how to stop her from doing this? I'm currently just trying to ignore it and giving her no attention when she does it. she has done this in public too and I've ignored it then too but boy, my son NEVER did this so feeling a bit overwhelmed. She always wants her own way as is expected from a 20 month old but obviously want her to learn that not everything will go her way without my ear drum bursting. How do you discipline a 20 month old?!

Needless to say, it doesn't help with my regular headaches....

Anyone else dealt with this?

I'm super lucky my 21 month old doesn't tantrum much, when she does at home I ignore her and walk into another room and she comes around very quickly. When out and about I take her hands and talk to her quite quietly so she has to calm down in order to hear me.

My friend with a littlw girl the same age has quite a tough time with her lo. She uses a naughty step

Will follow this. Easier to deal with at home, not so much when out and about!

My daughter has just started the tantrum stage although we haven't had any extended ones, they mainly only last a couple of minutes. My niece apparently who is almost 3 apparently had a 5 hour one one day!!
We use the bottom step of the stairs as a naughty step if she does something like hit her brother. First couple of times we put her on it she cried uncontrollably but now she just sits there and waits for it to be over and usually just accepts that she has done something wrong and says sorry x
