Well this morning I collected two big boxes of toys from a lady on Freecycle. It included a wooden cot and some really good toys along with the usual rubbish! When I got to the house she opened the door and I met a complete fog of cigarette smoke - I knew straight away that everything was going to stink but that was an understatement. EVERYTHING TOTALLY STINKS!

As soon as I got home I picked out some good things that I could clean/wash/sterilise and the rest of going to the tip because to be honest I wouldnt afflict it on a charity shop! The smell is in my nose and I can't get it out!!

I used to be a smoker and the smell of that stuff actually made me want to be sick!

Yuck! My friend bought her little girl a pair of dungarees from eBay and they absolutely reaked of smoke the other week!! :puke:

Ugh I hate the smell of smoke! My parents smoke quite heavily and I hate it! It was summers birthday and my parents came up to give her presents-they all stink!! The clothes went in the wash as did the soft toys-everything else got put on the window sil's with the windows open! Gross!! x x

Oh nO!!!! I hate that smell. Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda on everything and leave for 24 hours. Then hoover it up. It absorbs smells! :)

Thanks Tiny - anything soft is going to the tip, its just awful - they must have been sitting there for weeks in smoke to stink like that.

Try washing down everything in vinegar as well! The big silver cross pram I bought proper stank of smoke and that worked wonders!

I took the lot to the tip - I would hate any young children playing with them. I have had the toy cot in the sun all day to sanitise it after disinfecting it. Seriously, I had the box of stuff int he garage which is pretty big and it managed to stink it out! All gone now tho!

It's horrible isn't it!! Someone gave us two boxes full of lovely baby clothes for Evie and they were smokers. I had to wash it all twice and some of the bits I chucked out as I just couldn't get the smell out properly

Yes it seems to permeate everything, I dont know how those people live like that - it was rank!
