Do a sweep before your actual due date?
or are they not allowed.
(me and my mums friends have been talking about it this mornnig and we dont know)

hello
No I don't think they would, my friend is due on friday (7th) and asked her midwife about a sweep this morning but was told no chance as they are not allowed. Her midwife made her an appointment for a sweep on the 12th when she will 5 days overdue (if she hasn't had the baby by then that is lol) :D xxx

Not likely but i was offered a sweep 4 days before i was due, but only because it would take a while to get another appointment for one (the midwife was only at the doctors surgery one day a week). i refused to see if something would happen itself, however i got an appointment to get one at 5 days overdue and luckily it worked.
:D

See this is the thing, i have a midwife appointment on the 14th.
and im due on the 17th,
but my midwife said to me at my last appointment that i have virtually no more room and i must be incredibly uncomfortable. and i am, but like i was just wondering if they might be willing do it it a few days early.
but if not i guess ill have to wait :(

its just horrible feeling like this, :(

iknow it horrible the last few days but you really do just need to be patient.
To be honest i dont think a sweep works unless you are nearly ready to go yourself. I was 1cm dilated and my cervix was becoming favourable so i was almost ready to go on my own, and the sweep help it along. however i know if i got the sweep 4 days before i was due then it wouldn't have worked.

Please dont force him, he will come in his own time, and it wont be long, trust me it may feel like its dragging just now, but yo'll be holding your babyin you arms very soon  .

i really wouldnt mind if i wasnt in pain all the time
i know he will come when he wants to but like, i dunno just i dont like the pain,
this really sounds like im a wuss,
but im looking forward to the labour,
its just the fact hes pushing my my bladder all the time and hurting my ribs :( making me short of breath

i really cant wait to have him :)
hell be worth it all in the end

I asked my MW this question on monday and she said they will not do them until you are on day 7 of being over due, she said that is what they are ment to do and she will not do them until this day or after that, as Little red said you need to be over due and ready or nearly ready to go for it to work.

I know the last few days you just want baby to come i am due tomorrow i feel the same, but baby will come when they are ready and that says everything, i will have a sweep if i am 7 days over as then it should work....

Good luck and everything crossed baby comes soon for you

Hi Girls,

I'm going for a sweep next Wednesday - I will be 39+1 weeks. I never asked for it my MW just said she would do it. I thought it was a bit weird to be offered one before my due date but hey ho I'll give anything a go. She said she didn't expect me to make it to that appointment - I'm hoping she is right but as the days go by I think I will be there!!

I was in labour 86 hrs, I can assure you babies come when they want  although Isaac needed a little tug too, so sometimes they are a bit hesitant :D
He will be worth it all in the end, just know that this is practically it now, savour these final days, eat well, rest up, and think good baby thoughts, very best wishes

I have my next midwife appointment on 12th and I'm due on 13th so I was wondering if midwife would do a sweep or not on this day. My midwife is only at the surgery one day a week so if she didnt do a sweep next week then I wouldnt get one until the following week when I would be 6 days overdue...dont think I have the patience to wait that long!

I really do sympathise Robyn especially when people are telling you they think your baby might come earlier! I do agree though that they come when they are ready and there isn't a huge amount you can do to hurry them up unless they are ready to be born! I am at the same stage in my pregnancy as you and am tired, huge and fed up but there really isn't that long to go for us now!!! My first baby was born a week early and it really surprised me so maybe it will be like that for you!!
Take care hon, baby will be out before you know it!
jac xxxx

I was supposed to get my sweep today and I'm not due till Sunday! The only reason I didn't get it today was because they noticed the baby was breech.

So yes, my sweep would have been 3 days early.

My God! Makes my 40 hrs look like nothing!

It was fine, the contractions weren't painful it was just back ache, which co-codamol sorted out :D All was well up until they induced me with the oxytocin drip anyway (would never be induced that way ever again  ), I was doing fine whilst it was all still natural
