hi,
I have a dog who's just turned one and she really pulls on the lead, shes so strong.
do you think its wise me taking her out for walks at this early stage or leave it to my partner?
thanks

Like with anything else - if you are not comfortable doing it, leave it to OH x

thanks, think ill leave it to the partner to walk her. I just feel bad him doing it everyday when he works and I don't (I'm a student). I also don't know if I'm just overthinking it, but I don't want to do anything that could cause a mc if you know what I mean.

you could consider a body harness for her, they worked well on my boxers.

baby is so snug and tucked up though I'm sure you'd be fine

Hello, I am 28 weeks pregnant and i have the same problem. I used to run with Dexter every morning pre pregnancy but i have such a bad back now from the baby that it hurts when i walk him. He is a 30kg 10 month husky.
I am also a veterinary nurse, What i would recommend is a Halti harness that goes over the nose. They are magical, We have just switched Dexter over to this and alas i can walk him again! :)

I have a harness for her and she pulls more on that, so recently just been attaching lead to collar.

I'm very early days, 5 weeks, I'm just worried because ive had a mc previously and I don't want one again.

a friend mentioned a halti harness. I might look into them. she has a funny nose though with being a sharpie.

Your dog pulling won't cause a mc hun, but you could possibly hurt yourself. During pregnancy your ligaments relax so you're more likely to get a pull or a strain and obviously as you get a bump you need to be careful with lifting as you have to hold objects away from your body. If walking her us causing you stress and making you worry then get your oh to do it.

A head collar will help make it easier to control her but you need to introduce it in a positive and gradual way to get her used to it otherwise she'll just try and rub it off. You could take some treats out with you if you walk her so you can use it to reward her for walking next to you. You might need to lure her with it to begin with ( ie keep it on the end of her nose to keep her with you) but you can eventually phase out the treats.

Depending on the design of your harness, see if you can attach the lead to the front on her chest as this might help too. Ultimately though, the only thing that will stop her pulling on the lead is training.

I've worked in a rescue centre for twelve years and through five pregnancies (2 successful and 3 MCs) I was just sensible with which dogs I took out and avoided walking the ones that pulled very strongly on lead but other than that I pretty much carried on as normal.

I have a Saint Bernard who has just hit hit Bernard-teens and decided to pull occasionally. He’s massive and far stronger than me!, when I spoke to my midwife she said as long as he’s not going to pull me over and it isn’t straining me then she’s sure it’ll be fine
