has the age you start on solids increased from 4mths to 6mths?

finley seems quite happy on milk at the min but i cant see him being on milk alone til 6mths

what age did you start giving baby rice etc?

something to do with starving babies in africa. its a load of shite IMO!!
why starve a baby until 6 months when you have the means to feed them.
weaning was recommended at 3 months with my 1st 9 years ago.

all babies are different and need solid foods at different stages. They aren't all cut from one cloth so they can't follow one rule.

my second baby was on baby rice at 3 months old as she was always hungry all the time and the h/v told me to give it to her, my other 2 i started weaning at 4 months

I think weaning etc should not be based on ages, all babies are different!
I think emily will be on baby rice before 6months, shes already on 6ozs 6 times a day!
I was on baby rice from 2weeks, because i was a little fatty and always hungry

You give your LO baby rice when you feel he's ready, check with your HV first though

I definatly won't be waiting till 6 months. It was recommended at 12 weeks when I had my 1st and that was only in 2000. Can't see babies changing that much in 7 years. I think I'll be starting Nathan off at 17 weeks unless he suddenly gets really hungry all the time in which case I'll start him sooner.

We started Arianna at about 16wks or so.

my hv told me it was to encourage mums to breastfeed for longer. i think it came from the world health organisation,--like budge said- to encourage the 3 rd worlders to keep breastfeeding and not wean early cos there isnt enough food.

i doesnt do any harm to give it at 4 months if theyre ready, it depends on the baby.

alice still isn't on solids, but i am giving her the odd cold bit of pear,etc... to help her gums.

she hasn't shown much 'need' for it. still on 6 oz, 6 bottles a day.

she did grab my sandwich out of my hand the other day though. didn't let her eat it.

I have been told it is to prevent obesity later in life -

If you ask me not giving your kid a macdonalds every week or chips at every meal has more to do with it!

Logan is on 2 meals a day and loving it!

Don't think i will be waiting 6 months either luke has catching up to do also.

this is also what my health visitor said that the government are now recommending. :wall:

TBH I thought that weaning at 4 months was important for speech develpment. Something to do wiht the movement of the tongue. Or am I talking twaddle as usual  I am sure that is what i heard!

My HV said it was so women breast feed for longer and also with all the research now days they rekon early weaning can cause stomach and bowel troubles like IBS later on in life.

I started Harry on a table spoon of baby rice around 14-15 weeks as he was so unsettled and showing all the signs of being ready for weaning.

Oli is on two powder meals, absolutly loves them and is very happy :)
I started her at around 3 months on baby rice :)

Until she gets hungryier I wont give her more, but by 6 months I am sure she wil be on home cooked goodness :D

yeah same here bethany was born in 2000 and it was fine from 12wks, which is when she started on em cos she was so hungry!

I started weaning Jake properly about a week and a half ago as he is 6 months soon. I would have started Jake earlier but he hasn't really needed it until now. I thought that it was 6 months now to help prevent allergies later in life but who knows as they change the advice every year.

I am sure every baby is different...I originally hoped to wean Ruby before I went back to work@ 6 months coz I wanted to do it...she is showing NO signs of wanting to be weaned at the mo..she doesnt take more than 5oz a any time, and is sleeping through still..once she stops that, the baby rice is coming out!! :rotfl: She LOVES her bottles...

Sis weaned her baby at around 20 weeks, but she was prem, so it was a disaster..she waited a few weeks and tried again and Olivia LOVES it!!! :cheer:

Ruby has started gawping at me when I eat now, she loves watching food from plate to me so I dont think it will be long...

Ha ha, Nathans started doing that. He makes me feel so guilty. Hes showing now other signs either and he has never slept through the night anyway so I don't know how I'm gonna tell when hes ready.

We started giving Jamie baby rice at 12 weeks, he was drinking so much milk it was getting silly
Do what is right for you and your baby, I stopped paying attention to all these books, programmes & health visitors ages ago, how can they tell me what my son wants when they don't know him
