Does anyone let their baby sleep on their tummy. Joe isnt settling well at night and seem to like being on his tummy. I know the recommendations are not to do this because of sids but does anyone do it?

Joe is in our bedroom next to our bed.

Laurax.

i do it if im awake next to him. if im nodding of i dont let him. its just if they are sick and cant lift their head they will chock on it.

but Harley sleeps much better on his tummy too

Phoebe has slept on her tummy since she was 5weeks old.
As long as the room is well ventilated and there isn't anything in the cot they can sufocate with I think it's ok.
Obviously not ideal but what can you do if bubs won't settle any other way?

Damien never chocked on it Dionne... I used to lay his head to the side so it would come out easily.

Harley used to try and lift his head he would bob it up and down and hit it on the mattress then just give up and lay there with his face down on the mattress. he wouldnt keep his head to the side.
Harley always sleeps on his side with a pillow under his sholders and head

On their side is a good way to lay them until they can roll themselves, Damien used to sleep like that too :)

alex is a tummy baby - has been since about your lo's age. we have a mattress sensor pad which is a godsend if you have a tummy baby.

the difference in alex when we put him on his tum was amazing - i think some babies just wont sleep any other way. my sisters two were the same as well.

its a worry but he is much happier that way. as bubble one says if you have taken every precaution and the wont settle otherwise then what else do you do? you have to come to your own conclusion though. its not an easy decision but i believe its the right one for us.

thanks folks. Where would I get a mattress sensor pad from? I like the idea of that.

try argos hun - think they do a tommee tippe one for £50. its a montior with a sensor pad - little light flashes everytime it detects a movement (ie breathing) and the alarm sounds if no movement detected for 20 seconds.

you will get false alarms as they can wriggle away from the pad in a big cot (esp at alex's age) frightens hell out of you at the time but once you know they are ok you realise its worth it cos what if it had been for real?

i am a bit more casual if it goes off now - still run to his room like a woman possessed but once i'm sure he's fine then i go back to sleep - i used to watch the monitor for several hours beofre i'd finally nod off!

oh here found the link
