When should i start introducing anything other than breastmilk into DD's diet. And what should i start with?

Thanks

the World Health Orgaisation recommendation is 6 months. Your HV will probably advise you in a few months about weaning, they usually do when it gets nearer the time.

baby rice is considered the safest thing to start with as it is less likely to trigger any food allergies.

I'd start when you think he is ready for it, for us that was 4 months, for some it is older, but if exclusivly breastfed should not be later thatn 6 months.

The latest studies show that it is best to wait until 6 months as that is when your LO's tummy will be properly ready for food. A lot of people feed earlier than this but there is usually no need and it does put Lo at risk of things in later life. i have IBS and I have no way of knowing why but it is suggested that early weaning (before 6 months) can cause this.

At 6 months you can choose to puree things for baby or do baby led weaning (BLW) where you give baby solids to chew on. Purees were needed when people weaned early but if you wait until 6 months it is perfectly safe to do BLW. My rule of thumb with DD is that she is not allowed anything that I wasn't allowed while pregnant. Also, before a year old they should have no salt as their kidneys are not mature enough to cope and also as little sugar as possible.

I waited until six months - partly because it is SOOOOO much easier to go out with your baby when you are only BF:ing. There's no need to bring food, bibs, spoons etc - just yourself and your LO

I'd do the same again if I had another child. My LO was really ready for food when we started at six months and we are doing partly BLW and she loves feeding herself x
