When do people have 1st scans?

Depends where you are - I get one at 12 weeks and then at 20 weeks. My area is different cause I have to go to my midwife and I book my appoinments - lots of ladies on here have home visits and have to wait for the midwife to contact them. The doc will fill you in on whats going on in your area. I got a big pack and my hospital notes so you can have a good nose in between visits. Saw the midwife at 8 weeks and will see her again at 16 weeks.
You may be given the choice of private scan called a nuchal scan - this is at 11 -13 weeks but in this area costs up to £150!

With Pregnancies that are not high risk, most Health Authorities offer the first scan between 10 and 16 weeks - The standard being 12 weeks. The Health Authority you come under will affect when you get your scan as they operate differently from one area to another.
Your Doctor will pass your details to your Midwife and you'll have a booking in appintment with her around 10 weeks. Some won't see women before they are 12 weeks pregnant. I was told this is because most miscarriages, if they occur, happen before 12 weeks.
Your Doctor should let you now when to expect your scan and Midwifes appointments when you see him/her.

You and me will always get early scans because of our history - You will also get them more frequently - Right up until 38wks too.

I assumed you meant they didn't scan you until 12 weeks but lookuing back I think I picked that up wrong

No, just generally they won't scan you before 12 weeks unless you have bleeding or are classed "High Risk" - My first three miscarriages I had to wait for scans at 12 weeks though (Missed miscarriages every time) - It wasn't until after the third that they started looking after me
I made up for those scans though...with Ky I was scanned at 5,6, 8,9,10,11,20,24,28,24 and 38 weeks. Admittedly four of those scans were private.
You will have to have additional growth scans because your "sticky blood" poses a small risk that the blood flow to the placenta can be affected.

well in my area you only get a scan at 20 weeks and thats it!
Rachael, Do you mind if I ask you how far PG you were when you found out about your missed miscarriages.
I think I might be on my second missed miscarriage, I'm not confident (neither is the sonographer) that the baby will have grown when I re-scan later next week
And it seems a big coincidence that both times I was 9 and 8 weeks PG but the baby stopped growing at 6 weeks and I only found out when I started to bleed a little. But I have no pain still and it's like a light period, it's been 5 days.
Sorry if I'm prying, I just don't think it's chromosonal, I think it's my body.
