i got pregnant about 2 weeks after i started my job, i have no intention of returning after the baby is born but need to know what is the soonest i can leave and get SMP?

It sounds like you can leave the week you turn 29 weeks and receive SMP, you could save up holiday to take before this too.

I'm not sure if you can get SMP. To get it you have to have been employed by the same employer continuously for at least 26 weeks into the 15th week before the week your baby is due. Or in other words, you have to be working for them 3 weeks before you get pregnant as date of conception is around week 2 of pregnancy.

If you are not entitled to SMP and have worked at least 26 weeks in the 3 years before baby is born you will be entitled to maternity allowance, which is the same amount of money.

Oops! Thanks :)

Assuming you are due on 8th December, I think you would have to have started work no later than 25th February to get SMP. You should check that with people who know more about this though.

What she said!!

I too started work after I got pregnant and have put in a claim for Maternity Allowance.

You need to be able to provide 13 weeks of payslips but these can be from any period around 60 weeks (can't remember exact figure) before your due date.
