For a 12 month old what would you class as a fever, me and my oh debate this a lot when little one is sick.

I think anything above 37.5 and he thinks anything above 38.4 ish

We have a thermometer that beeps whenever LOs temperature is too high so we go off that. I think it is about 37-37.5.

In all honesty my son is usually quite cool so even if he isn't running a temperature, if it is significantly warmer than usual I give him calpol etc.

A fever is anything above 37.5, but I tend to treat fever with Calpol etc. only if it's over 38 or if they're visibly sick/irritable. Height of fever isn't a good indicator of how ill a child is once they're over 6 months old.

Her temp is now 37.8 and like you I don't like to give calpol or anything else until over 38.
Purely because she was very ill for quite a few months and lived on antibiotics which I don't believe is any good for them.
Bar her temp and very very red cheeks she seems okay, a little more upset than normal but ok.

Mine never beeps. She hit 39.9 a few months back and it still didn't beep, the hospital checked the temp and it went to 40. I had been convinced mine was broke x

Anything over 37.5 according to the nhs. Sounds like she's teething

If she generally seems ok in herself then just see how she goes. As they get older it does become easier to recognise when they're poorly without relying on their temperature.

Like I said, with my LO he can be obviously unwell, snotty nose, clingy and upset and be hot compared to usual but not have a temperature. But I know it's hot for him if that makes any sense?!

Mild fever 37-38, high fever is >38. Generally speaking though, its better to look at the child rather than the number and always seek help if you are worried.

Thanks guys :)

Her temp went to 38.2, given her some calpol and it dropped to 37.8 again.

Put her to bed and she's coughing all the time :( hasn't done more than 10 minutes without wakng to cough yet.

Do they cough a lot with teething?

I was convinced she was teething but the cough worries me x x

My advice from GP's have been to treat the symptoms not the number - so for example my lo had a 'temperature' of 38.4 today but she was in good spirits so I just offered lots of water, look off her layers and treated it naturally, where as another day she may have a temp of 37.5 but be very whiney, clingy, upset with herself - that's when I crack open the calpol!

Awful when kids are ill! Seems like we can't go a few weeks of our lo being well before the next illness strikes!

Hope tonight goes well! Xx

Could do but not necessarily. They dribble a lot when teething so if extra saliva is going down the throat unexpectedly it might set them off

The coughing us worse today with a temp of 37.8 still
I think a trip to boots for more calpol plug ins is needed! X x

Does is sound chesty at all? If it does & she has a temp I'd take her to the docs

She has started coughing stuff up now and it's beginning to sound chesty.
She cried all afternoon and eventually fell asleep on me at 2pm. Stayed there till 5:30!!
My backs killing me lol
I'm going to take her docs tomorrow as she never ever sleeps anywhere but her cot and she's looking worse :( x x

Definitely take her then. Hope she gets well soon
