what can you wear in waterbirth?

i really want a waterbirth but i am really stressed at the thought of having to go in totally naked. are you allowed to still wear your bra or a bikini top? i know you loose your dignity anyway but i have a thing about people seeing my boobs i dont think i would be as botherd but my ex wants to be there.

i guess u could wear a bikini top. make sure u inform ur MW u wanna keep it on b4 u get too far in labour coz my MW stripped me 2 get me in the pool, i was in so much pain i didnt notice her doing it!

i'm sure i seen a women wearing a t-shirt in a tv programme having a water birth, i assumed you just wore what you want

You should be able to wear a bikini or tankini or even your normal bra or vest top. However, I strongly advise against wearing too much as like you I tried to keep my dignity in tact and wore in the water the long sleeved top I had been wearing when I went to the hospital. The warm water only comes up to your bust but the water absorbed up the neck and the arms of my t-shirt and the bit of the t-shirt that was out of the water got cold - reducing my body temp and stopping the inevitable - causing an extra 4 hours more pain. Given my time again - I would just prefer everyone to see my boobs!! Trust me they will see a lot worse once it all gets going and I can promise you - you will NOT care!

you can wear a t shirt or a bikini top. whatever you like i think so long as your bottom half is easily accessable

The likelyhood is that you will end up naked.. don't ask me how, but I didn't have a water birth, and some how, I don't remember how, but I ended up starkers

But as your ex will be there, make sure you put this in very large RED letters that you don't want to have either your bra/tshirt etc removed because of this... Saying that, he's going to be ogling your lady bits anyway.. they can't cover them as the baby's gotta come out of them...

I had a warm bath in hospital to ease the contractions, so I was naked anyway. I didn't want to get out of the bath, so when the time came that I was really dilated, they just put me in a wheelchair and wheeled me to the birth pool.. so yeah, I was naked and didn't care lol I remember saying to my OH while I was on Gas and Air that I can't believe some lady just saw my boobs and I didn't care

You can wear whatever you want on your top half, but dont forget you will have to take your top off for skin to skin after the birth and to breastfeed (unless your bottle feeding from the start)

Put in your birth plan that you dont want to be naked.
