I was driving back from Asda this morning and there was a battered BMW on the side of the road with two men next to it. One tried to flag me down, but I had my two year old charge in the car with me so no way was I stopping. As I didn't stop, he ran up the road after me. I kept going, then stopped at a garage and reported to the non-emergency police number 101. He said they could have been genuinely looking for help but most likely wanted to take advantage.

Apparently people are pretending to have broken down are praying on generous motorists in a cash scam! Unknown people, believed to be of eastern European appearance, have been parking at the side of the road and asking for money from charitable drivers.

They are telling people their car has broken down, run out of petrol or has a puncture and they need to cash to sort it out. Occasionally they have taken to offering fake gold rings in exchange for money or have given out addresses for companies they clam to work for.

Afterwards I spoke to a friend who is a police officer and she said it's been happening loads lately, if it happens to anyone, try and get the car reg and report it to the police but do not stop!

That's scary Titch. You just never know when you're safe nowadays. Glad you didn't stop. *hug*

I've heard so many car jacking stories just lately. In my local paper a few months ago a woman was stationary, was dragged out of her car which was taken away with her baby and toddler in the car :( they took the children out of the car a few miles away and left them there. Just awful! Thankfully they didnt hurt them, but who knows what could have happened to them. I make sure all of our car doors are locked on the inside now x

Oh god thats scary.

We had a letter go around work the other month about gangs putting a car seat or pushchair on the side of the pavements in wooden quiet areas with a blanket and doll in pretending its an abandoned baby..
People have stopped and got out and either their cars been hi jacked or if its women they are dragging women and raping them and men beating up and taking their belongings!!!
So bloody scary!!!!!!

Iv heard of this too. And also a piece of paper on your back windscreen on your car, so when you go in you notice it and get back out and someone steaks your bag or jumps in your car :( awful,., never ever stop. Always phone the police. I also heard a story about an unmarked 'police' car pulling over a young girl in a car, only it wasn't a policeman and the girl was assaulted :( and it gave a warning about calling the non emergency police number

This happened to us a few years ago. We pulled up (ish) and wound down the window a little and he was asking for money (strong accent and bad English... like Romania or something) and my OH said "Sorry, we can call for help if you need it but we have no money to give" and he started getting pushy and too close to the window so in the end we drove off and he was shouting and chasing us. Cheeky sods!
