why do drs and health visitors try to preassure you into vaccinating your child.
Ive chosen to only have his BCG and MMR.

My son had an allergic reaction to his first set of injections that left him extremely ill for 9 weeks. So ive refused to continue them. I refuse to use my child as a guinea pig.

Anyone else decided not to immunise their child for their reasons?

I dont wish to be barked after due to my choices but im open ears(eyes)

i choose to immunise my lo with all her vaccinations because its only due to all these immunisations that we dont have plagues anymore and have practically wiped out most of these diseases now. if we stop getting them the diseases can come back and become a problem again.

I'm glad I immunised all of my children. Liverpool is suffering from a measles outbreak at the moment and has left a lot of non-immunised children extremely ill. All members of staff who are not immune have been given the mmr for their own safety.
I do however agree with parents who chose to delay imms until child is slightly older (but still before school age) x

I guess you're in a unique situation whereby your l/o has had a severe reaction to the vaccinations. Generally though they are a good idea to protect children from illnesses that are potentially fatal to babies. My l/o has had all of his vaccinations and just the mmr to go when he's One.

It only take one child who didn't get immunised for an outbreak to start. And unfortunately it's caused babies too young for immunisations to die from these diseases. Personally I think the risks are so small. I'd rather immunise my child then possibly put other children and babies at risk. But that's my opinion.

My son has had all his jabs, I did do them later than they say though, 9 weeks, 15 weeks and 19 weeks (I think??) And then he had his boosters and MMR at 12 months.

He had a really bad reaction to every set of jabs, got worse each time, but the longest it lastest was 48 hours from the onset of the reaction, if he had a reaction that made him ill for 9 weeks I'm not sure what I would do.

I would want him to have them, because I believe it's for the best, but I would be concerned that he might get worse at each set and, even though he is getting stronger with each set, what damage would done!

I would be scared for my child to not have them though! xxxxx

I refuse to use my child as a guinea pig.

id also point out that no child is used as a guinea pig as the vaccinations are thoroughly tested before being used on anyone. noone can predict if anything will happen say 10 years after taking the vaccination but the reality is that if not vaccinated who is to say that the child may be healthy all those years later if they catch the disease the vaccination prevents.

im sorry your lo had an allergic reaction but now that you know hes allergic to the vaccination they can give him different ones. usually its an egg allergy i think. i dont want to sound like im gettting on your case but i do feel that vaccinations are very important and i also hate when ppl read non scientific, unproven propaganda on the internet that seems to prove that vaccinations are unsafe (not that this is anything to do with what you have written). it is ultimately your own choice i guess so im just saying what i think on the matter. you will do what you feel best and thats your choice. i wish you and your kids all the best and hope that noone makes you feel bad for your choice, its just a different view, i couldnt say which was best or right as there are alot of ppl who feel the same as you and id never want to make anyone feel bad or wrong.

I think the reason they 'presseure' you is because reduced up take can cause out breaks of dangerous illness' as was aparant after the drop in MMR up take resulting in a lot of measels outbreaks.

Did they establish what about the jabs made your little one ill?? are there no alternatives - e.g like you can get an egg free flu jab (i think.)

xxx

I have seriously considered the options after my nephew changed considerably after having his mmr jab and was diagnosed with autism. After talking to my sil she said that even before then looking back there were issues such as from birth sleeping all the time but prefering to sleep in a cot or moses rather than be cuddled. After thinking about it I feel I'd rather my son had a short term problem or even autism than be left blind, deaf or worse deaf from a measles attack etc. Thats only my personal decision hun. xxx

As has already been suggested, if your issue is your son's previous reaction (which I can understand, it must have been very upsetting for you!) then maybe you could enquire if there are any alternative injections, I wouldn't be surprised if there were!

I chose not to give my oldest the BCG because I'd only had it the year before and remembered how sore it was. I thought TB was such a rare thing what's the point. Roll on to a few years later I do my nursing training and see that it's everywhere! Now I could have got it over and done with at 6 weeks old but now we're having to get it done.
