Well I done it ladies, I was up sitting anxious at 9am on Saturday 5th February waiting to go in to be induced, I was feeling very uncomfy sitting and walking around and having a few niggles and period type feelings but couldnt feel any tightnings, so just brushed them off untill 10.30am and I got one massive contraction, so so painfull it literally took the breath from me lol, I brushed that off too thinking "it's just a one off" and the next thing I had another with this immense burning sensation along the lower of my tummy, it was only 5 minutes after the first, It actually brought tears to my eyes and I then said to my OH and mum, I think we may need to leave a bit earlier, these feel totally different to the feelings I was having an hour and a half ago lol. I then phoned the maternity unit and explained symptoms, etc to them and they told me to come in to get checked over but it sounds like early labour. We left at 12.30pm, on the way to the maternity unit which is only 15mins drive away from my home I had 8 contractions+ !! Anyway, I got hooked up to the ctg machine and the tighning percentage thing was away up in 40's + and I was literally crying with the pain, they got a dr in and he felt inside and told me I was only 1-2cm dilated but deffinately thinks I was in early labour, so he told me I was to still go up to the ward and see how things go, if things didnt progress too much by the evening then they would still use the pessary and try that way. I got up to the ward at 2pm, from 2pm onwards I was having constant contractions, painfull but I was managing to breathe through them and took 2 paracetamol to try and take the edge off for a while (paracetamol done nothing I might add), the contractions got very irregular at about 5pm and I thought "oh well, guess its the pessary".
Visiting time came at 6.30pm and the midwifes brought the ball in for me to try and relax on as the contractions were back again 5 mins apart again. I sat on the ball for 5 minutes and the next thing I just started feeling this immense pain, I couldnt even describe it if I was asked to but I knew something was different, also, the contractions suddenly went from 5 minutes before going on the ball to 1 minute apart being on the ball and I was doubled over the bed, crying my eyes out with the pain. My OH was so distressed seeing me like that and said I should be on gas and air by now with the state i'm in with the pain, but I wanted to just keep going as long as I could without any pain relief (apart from the 2 paracetamol earlier). Visiting finished at 8pm and by that point I was in a lot of pain and the dr came in and decided to check inside again to see if i'd progressed any, she confirmed I was 4cm dilated and they moved me down to the labour suite. I got to the labour suite, they burst my waters, put a drip in me and I had the gas and air ( hated it though, didnt like the feeling it gave me, so I was trying not to use it), after they burst my waters I just couldnt cope with the pain, it was that pain that makes u want to push, so she advised me to take the epidural (which I wanted to eventually anyway if I couldnt cope) but she just knew how much pain I was in and obviously she wanted me to rest for a while as i was only 4 cm dilated and wasnt time to push.
The man came in and gave me the epidural, it numbed 1 leg and that was it, so he gave me a second epidural and that worked. I didnt feel much from then on. Eventually a few hours later I felt a really big pressure inbetween my legs (I was lying on my side) and I said to the midwife, I have a lot of pressure down below and in my bum, I think the baby may be pushing out but I cant feel anything else to know, so she came over and had a look and said "yes, I can see the head" lol, after about 20 mins of pushing he still wasnt coming out and the baby was getting stressed, so I had to have a vontouse delivery. I got a 2nd degree tear inside and that was it !!
The next thing I knew was my gorgeous baby boy was being put into my arms and touching my skin with his gorgeous little eyes looking at me !! I've never felt so many different feelings at the once in my life! So overwhelmed !!
Findlay Thomas Alexander Watters was born by ventouse delivery at 02.52am Sunday 6th February 2011, weighing 6lb 4oz !! He was in Special care for 2 days and lost 6% of his body weight but since being out of special care he is eating very well and putting the weight on now !!
Myself ... I am doing gd, I was kept in for 6 days due to Findlay being taken to special care and then my blood count being border line for a blood transfusion, but they checked my blood again and it had moved from 8.1 to 8.4 and they monitored me over 24 hours and allowed us home today !!
My internet is playing up and wont let me log into photobucket to get pics up of him for use, but I WILL get pics of him up for you all to see A.S.A.P
Couple more since being home !!
