Anyone done this whilst pregnant? I am due to go to a ski resport (for a conference not skiing) in feb. I'll be 11 weeks and I'm soooo worried. It'll be about 9000ft.

Does anyone know if this is advised?

people live at high altitude and have babies all the time, I guess....... I do not know but guess it must be OK

are you trying to talk yourself out of going again  - just go - it will be fine! have a lovely time! :)

I am sorry I don't know about going up, just down.... As a Diving instructor it is advised NOT to go scuba diving at all due to the nitrogen build up in your system, it can distroy tissue cells and some believe can cause birth defects even MC in some cases ....But that is all about depth and time at depth... i can go on here and bore you..... anyway, As far as i know it is the nitrogen overload that causes the problems and more oxygen is the solution. I know there is Less oxygen at alltitude but there is not the same nitrogen risk as with diving, I believe you will be fine, but i would advise drinking lots and lots of water, not tea or alcohol. this helps your body replace lost oxygen to the tissues. I know people live in mountains and have babies who are fine but i also understand that our bodies don't have the same time to adjust and that why you are concerned. I think i would do a little more research if i were you but truthfully, I believe you and baby should be ok.
You take care and try not to worry, Lv Yvonne xx

KJ as you are on email terms with your GP why not just mail him/her the question?

I know when I went high up a mountain once they gave out warnings for "pregnant women, people with heart conditions and low blood pressure" to be aware of the altitude.

Better to put your mind at rest then you can go and enjoy the conference without worrying.

thanks everyone, I've been worrying myself silly all day. It's cause this is my first pregnancy and I want this baby so much!

The GP emailed me back saying it should be fine. Most of the info I"ve found on the web says it should be fine as long as my pregnancy isn't high risk, twins, or I do strenuous excercise. I still dont' have a definite answer though, it's sooo annoying! I don't know what to do.
If anyone has already seen their midwife, would you mind asking her for me? I haven't had my booking in appointment yet so I don't have one to call.

My boss is pressurising me to register for the conference asap, and it's really difficult to know what to do.

I've decided not to go and have said I don't cope well at high altitudes. My boss has been really nice and said that is fine! So I don't have to worry any more!

I'm glad you've made up your mind not to go. It's probably best if you are going to worry.
