So I always planned on BFing LO and as I had issues with latching with my 1st I bought nipple shields, hydrogel pads and prepared myself for problems again.
Well yes we have been having problems with latching since his birth but it has been an easy fix as LO is tongue tied. Saw paediatrician yesterday and today as well as a lactation consultant who both advised getting it cut so that's what we did earlier and straight away he latched no problem 😄 It was a little horrible to watch him get the procedure but nothing compared to the frustration of not being able to BF properly.
Please seek advise if your having trouble and suspect baby is tongue tied as the difference is amazing! Just thought I'd share x

Thank you for sharing, my ds is 12 days old and i've been exclusively breastfeeding. I noticed when he was 5 days old that he had tongue tie and told my midwife. He is now booked in for the procedure on Monday and i'm a little nervous but feel like i'm making the right decision. He has gained weight (6oz in 6 days) but he feeds for 1-2 hours a time and my nipples are bitten to shreds and i've been in agony. I've been to the breastfeeding cafe to make sure that i'm positioning him correctly but they're pretty sure that its his tongue tie that is causing the problems. So i'm hoping that once he's had the procedure breastfeeding will be alot more comfortable for me.

Oscar had tongue tie and the procedure is so quick he didn't even wince! Since then his latch has been great and he can drain a breast in 5 mins flat lol

I'm Suprised the pedi's didn't pick it up sooner - oscars was picked up at his first check after my suspicions and his was only slight

Fingers crossed for you mrsck x

I wish ours had been so successful. Although picked up from birth, ours wasn't cut until 4 days later, after her weight had dropped more than 10%. The procedure took seconds and her suck is now stronger and she's back at her birth weight, but her latch is still awful. We're wondering if she might have a posterior tie as well but are unsure how to get this diagnosed as it's apparently pretty specialist.

Oscars latch was abit poor after - he had his procedure after a week

Have you had any support to help the latch? I found with abit of help from breast feeding support and some patience his latch has improved a lot.

X

We're going to try a feeding clinic next week and we're being kept under midwife care a bit longer while we work on it.
