Olly has always been a regular pooper, no problems at all.
We started introducing the potty and toilet a few month ago and he had taken well but still not 100% so Im not pushing it until after his sister is here in a few weeks as I know he will regress.
He started pooing on the potty and toilet no problem then a few weeks ago starting asking for his nappy on and hiding to do a poo, I was encouraging but just scaring him so put his nappy back on. This last week we have been having problem with pooing full stop. He went on Monday after tea but all day kept saying he needed a poo and I tried nappy on, nappy off, toilet, potty, dancing, singing, distracting - nothing worked and he as was such a grump all day. Any who after tea on Monday he came running in he kitchen holding his bum screaming and crying saying 'need a poo' and I just had to hold him and stroke his back while he did it but it was huge and poor boy was crying - I think it's scared him as we are now at Thursday and he is refusing to poo !!!!
I had the dancing about yesterday from him saying he needed a poo but we were out all day and he had his nappy on so I tried to ignore him hoping he would just go but he didn't - the same all last night and he woke at 4am this morning asking to go - he just won't go !!!
Repeat this morning, we got up at 8.10 and by 9.30 I must gave taken his nappy off about 15 times. Potty is in the living room, door to the downstairs toilet is open and he has nothing on his bottom half. I honestly don't know what else to do.

Iv called my parents for advice and my dad thinks I should ring the doctor, mam said to carry on what I'm doing and hope he eventually goes. We have a Xmas party this afternoon so we have to go out at 1 but I'll be putting a nappy on him.

Nothing has changed in his diet except he is eating more oranges - as it's the season !! He does eat a good amount of fruit during the day - drinks a lot of very watered down sugar free juice.

Can anybody give me any advice ??
Xx

I really wanted to avoid giving him any medicine because I still don't know if he is only scared and holding it in on purpose - I just don't know !!!!! Before if he wouldn't go I would put a nappy on and guarantee within an hour he would have done a poo - now he's just screaming for it to be off

Xx

I'm by no means an expert, and no were near that stage with my LO but could it be the sensation of actually going that's making him frightened? Especially if the last one hurt? I was also going to say, and I know this sounds gross, but while you or daddy/relative does a number two, he comes and sits with you so he knows that it's okay and that mummy/daddy do it too. Apparently when I was teeny tiny, my mum said I hated doing a 2 because I felt like everything was going to fall out  (I'm fine now lol! I've had 22 years of practice now)

Poor wee mite, I can't imagine how uncomfortable he must be feeling x

He went eventually this afternoon after screaming for his nappy back on, 20 minutes of dancing around the living room crying I just had to get hold of him and stroke his back and I sang to him and he did go - poor sod. It was massive and rock solid so it's obviously hurting him. Different kid after tho.
I'm just going to have to keep an eye on him, don't know what's making him constipated !!

Could be the act of holding it in for so long is making him constipated?!? As its all compacting up inside of him?

Yeah I was going to say the same as pumpkin. He will be holding it in because every time he goes now it hurts and it will be a viscous cycle for him now. If definitely get him something to take to make it looser and he can get over the psychological effect x

My lad has big poops sometimes which I can see are discomforting.. Myself going on the toilet when I'm discomforted considering they messed up my bottom parts during birth I know it all too well.. So I had this stuff too.
I'm by all means not keen on using medicine.. I've used paracetamol once since he was born! And I'm only become a fan of nasal spray recently! But lactulose just helps the stool to soften from what I know, it's not a laxative... Just discuss it with the doctor if it's persists, you don't really want him to become scared of pooping now he's doing so well going on the toilet!

Well he must have been blocked up. He went again last night after tea but only danced about for half hour but wasn't screaming, but I could see it was painful. This morning we had full on dihorea ... Great !!!

Xx
