First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.
They took asprin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna froma can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, our cots were covered with bright coloured lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our pushbikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitch-hiking.
As children, we would ride in cars without seatbelts or airbags.
Riding in the back of a pick-up on a warm day was a special treat.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle! We shared one soft drink with 4 friends, from 1 bottle and no one actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because we were always playing outside.
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the street light came on.. No one was able to reach us all day and we were ok.
We would spent hours building go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find we forgot the brakes. After running into bushes a few times we learned to solve the problem.
We didn't have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no vidio games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no dvd movies, no surround sound, no mobile phones, no PC's, no internet or chat rooms..we had friends and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies and the worms didn't live inside forever.
We were given catapults for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and balls and although we were told it would happen, we didn't poke out many eyes.
Under 12 footy had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't dealt with the dissapointment imagine that!!!
The idea of parents bailing us out was unheard of. They actually sided with the law
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventers EVER.
The past 50 years has been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all!
And YOU are one of them! CONRATULATIONS.
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulates our lives for our own good. And while you're at it, forward it to your kids so they know how brave their parents were!
Kinda makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it!!![/u]

crikey that bought alot of memories back fantastic, imagine living like that now, saying that my kids love making mud pies and eating things they shouldn't. where has time gone, i wonder what it will be like in another 40 years. we will be literally rapping are kids up in cotton wool and bubble rap!!!

Ive seen this a few times and it is a classic! We used to always be playing outside on bikes, rollerskates, we played hide and seek and knock down ginger, we roleplayed that we were superheroes (I was always wonderwoman of course hehe) and we found bushes in the local park that made superb dens! Yes we did eat loads of crap but we were healthy because of all the activities, and our imaginations were allowed to roam free! Ahhhh those were the days.

Saying that though, I live in a little welsh community were the local kids are always out playing in the forest and on thier bikes, so its not ALL gone :D
