I was born in '73 and am proud!!
I didn't have a chopper but I did have a grifter bike, remember those? I loved watching Tiswas on Saturday mornings and then later on my younger brother used to watch wacaday with Timmy Mallett!
In the summer holidays me, my older brother and our friends used to walk 45 mins to and from the swimming baths and stay there all day! We used to make camps down the woods until they turned it into a housing estate which while they were building it we used to go and play on their JCBs and run a away from the night forman!!
My best friend was great and we'd always think of money making schemes so we could buy sweets so used to rake gardens, pick and sell blackberries, penny for the guy for bonfire night and carolling for Xmas!
When it was hot we used to buy coop pop and make a stall and sell it for 10p a cup!
There was a big dip in the road near where we lived and when it really rained it would flood and all us kids would stand at the side of the road to help push the cars through. We got soaked and dirty but we are all still here, noone died from getting rained on!
It is so sad life for kids isn't like this anymore and it was a big factor in our decision to move to a seaside town in the country here in Denmark. The kids here still all play outside, spend summer at the beach but they now all ride unicykles rather than regular bikes, its like having lots of cicus kids around!
Oh for the days when you could be uncontactable
