But still concerned - obviously! 3 times now when I've changed Deb's nappy I've seen miniscule amounts of what looks like blood in her nappy. It's red and thread-like sitting on top of the poo, which is normal mustard yellow colour. It's less than a pin drop, but it still concerns me. IS it something I should take her to the drs for? I phoned NHS direct and they said it's most likely just one of those things but to take her to the drs if it continues. I poned the drs, and the receptionist didn't sound concerned, although obviously I can take her if need be. I really dont want to be a neurotic new mum (Debs is only 6 and a half weeks) but I would value your opnion!

Thea had blood in her nappy at a similar age to Deb and I totally freaked out! It turned out to be the hormones from my milk causing her to have what i suppose was a mini period. Apparently its quite normal in baby girls who are breastfed.

There can be loads of reasons for a baby to have a blood in a nappy and most of them are not serious. As long as the blood is red then its nothing internal (if its ever black dark blood get to the hospital straight away.) It can even be that they have anal fissures from straining to poo.

For your own piece of mind never be afraid to take her to the docs. There's nothing neurotic about making sure your babba is happy and healthy hun.

I would definitely get it checked out to put your mind at rest. Leorah had anal fissures and they caused her a lot of discomfort and it was easlily rectified in the end. I am sure if her poos look normal and she's not in pain its probably nothing to worry over

Thanks both  I'm taking her to the drs today to get it checked out. Mel, I remember the hormone/fake period thing, but I assumed that would be quite a lot of blood? Sounds like it would have been really stressful! Debs has got a few spots of baby acne, so I'm thinking it could even be one of those that has burst near her bum, if it's not an anal fissure. I'm not sure if she actually strains to poo or not lol - she goes bright red and looks very happy at the same time lol. Anyway, at least we should get it sorted today. Thanks again
