Hi ladies,

I think we're settled on a name for our boy but we will mainly call him Theo.
Do you think we should put Theodore on birth certificate so he has more options later on in life or do we just have Theo?!
I'm completely torn as hub wants just Theo as that's what we will verbally call him but I feel he may want to use a full version when he's older.

Would like to hear your views! Xx

Yeah. Not sure. Toby was on our list for sometime and never really established whether we'd put Tobias on the birth certificate - it was of debate whilst we considered the name.

Personally, I think Theo on its own is fine on the birth certificate.

I would put Theodore so he has the option when he's older. My son is Jimmy, his birth certificate says James but no one knows that except us. So he's always introduced as Jimmy and we've already corrected a relative who decided to call him James. But if he wants to be known as James when he's older, he has the choice.

Personally I would put Theodore, then he can decide when he is older. Plus I think its a very nice name, both the long and shortened version.

x

I love the name Theo it's on our list for no.2. I personally would put just Theo as I'm not such a fan of Theodore. x

I had Theo down if Lucie was a boy. I would just have Theo. Any name you put on the birth certificate will be their name iynwim. At the doctors, dentist etc you should use the full name so they will shout Theodore at the drs etc so if you don't want to use the full name I just wouldn't put it on. If you love the name but just want to shorten it as a pet name then that's fine. I just didn't want to have to use Theodore lol

Theodore definitely, I think it's nice to have a full name that's only used occasionally. I'm Elizabeth (hardly ever called that in practice) but when it does crop up I love it lol xx

We had picked Theo Jack as our boys name for our 2nd and wouldn't have used the full name, just Theo. funny enough I'm not a fan of Theodore for a boy but I think Theodora is cute for a girl xxx

Oh god thanks ladies- still torn! It's hard giving a child it's identity that isn't decided for you already!!!!!!! Lol! X

You can have Theodore on the birth certificate and still register him as Theo etc at the school/doctors etc, only place it must be same as on birth certificate is passport/drivers license.
Personally I prefer Theo to Theodore though xx

Either are good. Im a jennifer and a jenni and nice to have choice of either tbh

I'd personally put Theodore. I teach a Theodore but everyone calls him Teddy. It's just down to what you introduce him as I guess isn't it. Love the name by the way xx

I'd put Theodore too. We are having a similar issue with our girl's name. We really like Georgie, but feel as it should be more of a short version of either Georgia or Georgina. Just like Georgie Theo is a really lovely name, but I feel that maybe at some point of age they'd feel more comfortable being addressed by a different name. To me, Georgie is more the name all of her friends and family would call her, but when she's grown up, maybe at her workplace she'd prefer having a name that's not so "cute and girlish" if i may put it that way..... Maybe you or some others see this differently, I mean Theo really is a looovely name, but I was just thinking it'd be nice if they had a choice when they're older

Theo, definitely. We're of an age now where people call their kids apple and pilot inspektor so I think you can quite easily get away with Theo :)

If you plan to call baby Theo from the start then why would you even out Thodore on the birth certificate?
I personally don't see the point if you don't intend on ever using it.
xx

I like both names Theodore and Theo. I would put Theodore into certificate for sure. But if you do not want to ever call your son Theodore, why do you need to put this name into certificate? Leave just Theo!
